Before Lai Ching-te came to power, the Taiwan authorities fell into an all-out infighting. Guo Zhengliang bluntly said that Lai Qingde could only hold out for more than a year at most. At the same time, the call for "Ma Ying-jeou to come out of the mountain" sounded on the island. Do these circumstances indicate that the collapse of the DPP authorities is imminent?
On May 20, Lai Qingde will take office on the island. However, the situation of the inauguration ceremony gave Lai Qingde a blow in the face. Of the 12 remaining "diplomatic relations" with the Taiwan authorities, only the chief and deputy leaders of eight countries attended, and only more than 400 "foreign guests" visited the country, 40 percent less than when Tsai Ing-wen took office. What made Lai Qingde even more embarrassed was that before he came to power, the DPP authorities in Taiwan fell into a full-scale infighting. Tsai Ing-wen, who is unwilling to hand over power, has intervened in Lai Qingde's core team selection. At the same time, serious differences also appeared at the top level of the Taiwan military, which gave Lai Qingde a great headache.
According to the Taiwanese media "China Times News Network", as 520 approached, Lai Qingde announced the list of his core team in three times. However, as for Lai Qingde's candidate, all circles on the island generally believe that it is "cronyism." Tsai Zhengyuan, the former "representative of public opinion" of the Kuomintang, bluntly said that Lai Qingde wants to eliminate Tsai Ing-wen's influence on the DPP authorities by finalizing the core team. In particular, Lin Jialong, who is the secretary general of the DPP authorities, was directly excluded from the list of Lai Qingde's core team, which is a "purge" of "British" personnel. However, what Lai Qingde didn't expect was that Tsai Ing-wen directly announced on April 16 that Lin Jialong was the new person in charge of Taiwan's "foreign affairs department". Luo Wangzhe, a senior media person on the island, pointed out that Tsai Ing-wen is openly calling out Lai Qingde, interfering in the latter's core team selection, and releasing a signal that "as long as I am in office for one day, you will put yourself in the right position".
At the same time, Huang Shuguang, former "chief of staff" of the Taiwan military and current "self-made convener of submarines" in Taiwan, suddenly announced that he would resign. The ostensible reason why Huang Shuguang chose to leave was that he had a disagreement with Tang Hua, the so-called "commander of the navy" of the Taiwan military, on the "strategic choice." The real reason is that Huang Shuguang is a "British" personnel, and Tang Hua is more "favored" by Lai Qingde. Earlier, we mentioned that Lai Ching-te appointed Gu Lixiong, a diehard "Taiwan independence" element, as the head of Taiwan's "defense department" in order to thoroughly "green" Taiwan's military and turn it into a tool for "Taiwan independence." Before Lai Qingde came to power, Tang Hua visited the United States and participated in a US military meeting to discuss the so-called "first island chain" strategy. It can be seen that in order to "seek independence," Lai Qingde is willing to become a strategic pawn of the United States. However, the Taiwan military has always maintained "neutrality," and many people are unwilling to fight for "Taiwan independence." It is foreseeable that there will be more and more infighting at the top level of the Taiwan military in the future.
However, what made Lai Qingde most vigilant was that the call for "Ma Ying-jeou to go out of the mountain" suddenly sounded on the island. In the previous elections on the island, Ma Ying-jeou was ostracized by the Kuomintang because of the phrase "cross-strait affairs must be trusted by the mainland's top leaders" and failed to participate in the campaign before the polling day. However, during his visit to the mainland, Ma Ying-jeou received the highest level of reception and met with the highest level of the mainland for the first time in nine years. Ma Ying-jeou, who was originally regarded as a "marginal figure in the island's political arena", has gained popularity. The KMT's attitude changed drastically, and it welcomed Ma Ying-jeou's return to Taiwan in a high-profile manner. There are many voices in the blue camp saying that it is difficult for Ma Ying-jeou to dominate the cross-strait situation without official positions on the island. Therefore, Ma Ying-jeou should once again go out of the mountains and run for the chairman of the Kuomintang and even the leader of the Taiwan region, so as to promote cross-strait reunification and avoid fighting each other. However, Xiao Xucen, chief executive of the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation, responded that Ma Ying-jeou would not go out of the mountain.
Some analysts pointed out that Ma Ying-jeou's call to go out of the mountain put great pressure on Lai Qingde. After returning to Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou called out to Lai Qingde and demanded that the latter recognize the one-China framework and agree with the "92 Consensus." Although Lai Qingde did not respond, Zhu Lilun, who had previously remained silent about Ma Ying-jeou's visit to the mainland, immediately expressed his support for Ma Ying-jeou. It can be seen that through his visit to the mainland, Ma Ying-jeou has gained tremendous "political energy." For Lai, who is facing an unprecedented predicament, he can no longer ignore Ma Ying-jeou and will inevitably face more pressure.
