In the third year after the big core shortage, domestic products completely replaced imports

On the day of our interview, Pan Yunbin had just finished a chip procurement meeting for European customers.

After the meeting, he confidently said to us, "Now our chips not only occupy a place in the domestic market, but also successfully enter the European market." In terms of cost and performance, it is better than similar foreign products. ”

In 2021, the domestic new energy vehicle industry will be short of cores, and almost all automobile companies will stop production or can't get cars because of the lack of cores (power semiconductor chips). At that time, in the 4S stores of Jingneng's downstream customers, even the exhibition cars in the exhibition hall were not sold.

According to data, in 2021, the localization rate of China's power semiconductors will be less than 1%, and 99% will be imported to China after being produced by European and American countries.

So in 2021, Jingneng began to set up a team to develop domestic power semiconductor chips, not only relying on Geely's Jingneng, but at that time, domestic counterparts such as Huawei and BYD were also forming teams to design chips and tape-out tests.

The pursuit of industry leadership, listing is logical

The world's mainstream silicon-based chip is the seventh generation of micro-trench gate + field cut-off technology, and there is no generation gap between China and abroad. The first generation mentioned here is actually the concept of micro-grooves.

"Our chip, don't look at it as a smooth surface, but there are many grooves inside, and each trench is electron, and the more carefully the trench is dug, the more accurate the control of the current. Pan Yunbin said.

At present, the international microtrench has been dug to 1.6 microns, and digging to 0.8 microns has basically eaten up the material, that is, there is still 1 times the growth space. Crystal Energy's team is now also developing a new 1.2 micron microtrench.

There is also a new material, called compound semiconductors (such as silicon carbide), and there is still a generation gap between domestic and international.

Pan Yunbin said, "We must continue to seek breakthroughs and implement technological evolution just like catching up with the seventh generation of silicon-based chips." From the end of this year to next year, China is expected to surpass in this field. ”

In terms of application scenarios, in addition to the application of power semiconductor chips in new energy vehicles, photovoltaic energy storage, wind power, industrial control, and hydrogen production will be used as long as they involve the control of electricity.
