China's Young Female Scientists: Academician Huang Ru, President of Southeast University

Huang Ru, female, born in November 1969, native of Nan'an, Fujian, member of the Communist Party of China, joined the work in July 1997, doctor of science, professor, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician of the Academy of Sciences for Developing Countries. He used to be the vice president of Peking University, and is currently an alternate member of the 20th Central Committee, president (vice minister level) and deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Southeast University, and dean of the School of Cyberspace Security of Southeast University. In January 2015, she won the 11th China Young Female Scientist Award.

2. Huang Ru's contribution to scientific research and academic achievements

Huang Ru has been engaged in the research of new semiconductor devices and their applications for a long time, mainly including low-power new structure and new principle devices, new neuromorphic devices and related technologies, devices, circuit reliability and volatility, key common processes, etc. Huang Ru has won many national and ministerial awards, such as the second prize of the National Technological Invention Award, the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of the Beijing Science and Technology Award, the first prize of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education, and the first prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education.

Huang Ru proposed and developed a new quasi-SOI structure device for low-power and high-reliability circuit applications and a new Schottky-tunneling hybrid control mechanism device for ultra-low-power circuit applications. The theory and technology of fence nanowire devices suitable for integrated circuits below 10 nm have been developed, the new changes in the key characteristics of the devices and their physical roots have been systematically revealed, and a new process method that can be integrated on a large scale has been proposed, and low-power fence nanowire devices and module circuits have been successfully developed. A new phenomenon of fluctuation and reliability coupling in nanoscale devices and its influence on circuit performance are discovered, and new characterization methods and models for fluctuation/reliability analysis are proposed.

3. Huang Ru's education and teaching philosophy

For scientific research and innovation, Huang Ru believes: "Just do your own job." As long as everyone does their job well and does things in a down-to-earth manner, the so-called innovative things can be found in the work. "Scientific research and innovation is not a deliberate pursuit, everyone should do the most basic things in their own positions first, and lay a solid foundation, which is the most important thing. On the basis of diligence and steadfastness, the selection of topics and ideas are in place, and the achievement of scientific research results is a matter of course.

Fourth, Huang Ru's study and work experience

Bachelor's and master's degrees are studied at Southeast University

In July 1987, Huang Ru graduated from the third (3rd) class of Nanjing Zhonghua Middle School, did not take the college entrance examination, and was directly sent to Southeast University, which was then known as Nanjing Institute of Technology;

1987-1991, Undergraduate Student, Department of Electronic Engineering, Southeast University;

1991-1994, Master's Student, Department of Electronic Engineering, Southeast University;

Ph.D. study at Peking University

From 1994 to 1997, he received his Ph.D. in the Department of Computer Science and Technology, Peking University, focusing on new device technology and its applications.

My first career was at Peking University

In July 1997, Huang Ru received a Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computer Science and Technology of Peking University, and stayed at Peking University to teach after graduation, successively serving as an associate professor, professor and doctoral supervisor (promoted in 2001).

In 2005, Huang Ru was selected into the New Century Excellent Talent Support Program of the Ministry of Education;

In 2006, Huang Ru was funded by the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars.

In 2014, Huang Ru became the dean of the School of Information Science and Technology at Peking University.

In 2015, Huang Ru was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Ministry of Information Technology Science);

In April 2019, he served as the first dean of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence of Peking University.

In December 2019, he was appointed Vice President of Peking University.

In December 2020, he was appointed as a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Peking University, and concurrently served as the Director of the Department of Information and Engineering Science.

The second period of work experience is at Southeast University

Since December 30, 2021, he has served as Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Southeast University;

In January 2022, he was appointed as the President (Vice Minister level) and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Southeast University, on July 9, he was concurrently appointed as the Dean of Wu Chien-shiung College of Southeast University, and on October 31, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chengxian College of Southeast University.
