CCTV News: The final and award ceremony of the 16th "Hong Kong Cup" Diplomatic Knowledge Contest was held in Hong Kong on May 18. With the theme of "Shouldering the Responsibility of the Times, Cultivating World Feelings", this year's competition attracted nearly 70,000 applicants from 263 primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong. The participating students said that their participation in the competition further enhanced their sense of national pride and their determination to give full play to what they had learned and tell the stories of Hong Kong and China.
Since its inception in 2007, the "Hong Kong Cup" Diplomatic Knowledge Contest has become a branded public diplomacy activity for Hong Kong youth, jointly organized by the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government and The Better Hong Kong Foundation.
John Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said in his speech that major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics has always safeguarded national sovereignty, security and development interests, exerted an important influence on promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, and demonstrated the style of a major country. It is hoped that every young person in Hong Kong can have an in-depth understanding of the country's national conditions, history and culture, have a deep understanding of the general trend of the world and the country's development, hone their skills, stimulate innovation and creativity in the changing situation, and contribute to the development of the country and Hong Kong.
Cui Jianchun, Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said that the new generation of Hong Kong young people are happy to be prosperous and have great promises.
Cui Jianchun said: "How can we truly make Hong Kong a model for us to the world, so that the world can also see us Chinese." The Secretary for Education of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Ms Choi Yuk-lin, said: "This event is a very meaningful and challenging event for our students. Why? Now they must have a view of the overall situation, not only to have an understanding of Hong Kong, but also to have a sense of family and country, and more importantly, to have a global vision. So the whole process, I think, is a very deep, internalized learning process. ”
After fierce competition, Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wah Sheung Secondary School won the Gold Award in the Elite Competition, Sha Tin Pui Ying Secondary School and Diocesan Girls' School won the Silver Award, and Caritas Tuen Mun Madden Foundation Secondary School and Chiu Yu Sau Memorial Secondary School won the Bronze Award. Deng Bowen from Diocesan Girls' School won the "Best Typhoon Award".
Deng Bowen, a student who participated in the competition, said: "Through this competition, we have also learned more about the country and Hong Kong, and we actually have a stronger sense of pride in the country. We need to tell the story of Hong Kong well, and we need to promote the story of Hong Kong and China, so that the world can have a better understanding of China and Hong Kong. ”
