The earthquake in Hualien, Taiwan, has killed nine people and injured more than 700 others, and according to Taiwan's fire department, nearly 100 people are still trapped and disaster relief efforts are being stepped up.

According to the latest Taiwan media reports, after the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council expressed its willingness to assist in disaster relief, the "Mainland Affairs Council" on the other side of the strait, which is responsible for cross-strait affairs, immediately replied, first "expressing gratitude" in a false manner, and then declaring that "there is no need for the mainland's assistance in disaster relief."
On the one hand, the people in the earthquake area are in dire straits, and on the other hand, in the face of the mainland's goodwill help, the Taiwan authorities have indifferently refused. As a matter of fact, the mainland's rescue teams have rushed to Taiwan's earthquake-stricken areas on many occasions before, rescuing a large number of trapped people, and under the tense situation of the disaster, the more strength there is, the more vitality there is, and the Taiwan authorities' indifference to the mainland's refusal to help them is obviously to create confrontation between the two sides of the strait and put the people's safety above all else.
