"The title of the exhibition 'Ancient Seal Exploration' was finally decided after several deliberations. Lin Haishan said that the seal script is the oldest Chinese script, and has the artistic characteristics of simplicity and vigor, in addition to the seal script in the five-body calligraphy there is still the problem of text reading, and the artistic performance of the seal script is from the Qing Dynasty before it began to flourish, "whether from the perspective of philology or from the perspective of the artistic expression of the seal script, the seal script has many areas worthy of excavation by calligraphers, so it was decided to name this exhibition the ancient seal exploration." ”
Lin Haishan introduced that the works on display in this exhibition were created by her in the second half of 2023 for two or three months, mainly temporary works in seal script and other types of calligraphy. "I focus on seal script, but because it is an exhibition, the number of works is large, and the book style is relatively simple, I have done a lot of thinking about how to keep the audience from aesthetic fatigue. The exhibition not only presents Lin Haishan's recent seal script works, but also presents some official calligraphy and line calligraphy works, she has never shown her official calligraphy and line calligraphy works in the previous exhibition, she modestly said, "For official books and line calligraphy, I am still in the beginner stage, and I am brave and worried." ”

Lin Haishan is a native of Huai'an, Jiangsu Province, graduated from the China Academy of Art, and seal writing was a compulsory course when she was a student. Seal script is the source of Chinese writing, but also the source of the five bodies of calligraphy, "any learning, tracing back is a more scientific and efficient method, I study from the seal script to start." Lin Haishan was 30 years old when she started to study calligraphy, she was considered an older apprentice, she was ignorant when she first started learning calligraphy, encountered a lot of difficulties, and was once confused. In line with the attitude of being responsible for his own choice, he has persisted for more than ten years, and he only knows what it tastes like. ”
For more than 20 years, Lin Haishan has been working the road of studying books, and she has condensed her understanding of studying books into "three hearts of studying books" for self-encouragement. The first heart is "the heart of awe", calligraphy is one of the core of Chinese culture, carrying the "Tao" that the Chinese have followed for thousands of years, although the practical function of calligraphy has retreated, but the educational function has not changed, Lin Haishan believes that we can neither mystify calligraphy nor mediocrize, "calligraphy is not unattainable, but also can not be juggling, careless, every student of calligraphy, should be to cultivate morality, preaching and teaching as the main thing, learning books can bring you infinite strength and happiness." ”
The second heart is the "heart of inquiry", the rich and beautiful calligraphy relics left by the sages for us are the inexhaustible model of contemporary calligraphers, and the development of higher education in calligraphy in the past 30 years is even more vigorous. Rooted in tradition and based on the law, it is the only way to learn books. In Lin Haishan's view, the road to study books is bittersweet and bittersweet, and countless repetitions, breaks, and meditation are all lifelong practices of book learners.
