Under the leadership of the electric vehicle industry, the automotive industry has contended with a hundred schools of thought, giving birth to many new cross-border car manufacturing forces, and today our protagonist is a game company - Sony, why? Because its electric vehicles are also about to be mass-produced.
Just over a year ago, Sony and Honda co-founded the new electric car brand, Afeela. As the leading boss in the game industry, Sony's move makes many people feel a little trance, but if you think about it carefully, it is not impossible, after all, Sony seems to have dabbled in the two major indicators of electric vehicles: intelligence and drive battery.
At the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2024, Sony unveiled a pre-production version of its electric vehicle in collaboration with Honda. The Afeela is a large hatchback sedan with a simple and sophisticated sci-fi shape and futuristic smart colors. In order to show personalization, the new car is equipped with a narrow LED information screen on the front and rear bumpers, which can display the relevant information that the owner wants to display, including text and pictures, as well as the resolution setting.
The dimensions of the Afeela pre-production version are: length 4915 mm, width 1900 mm, height 1460 mm, wheelbase 3000 mm unchanged. In contrast to the previously announced concept car, which uses cameras instead of mirrors, the production car is equipped with conventional mirrors, but retains the side cameras.
A large digital screen occupies the entire front panel and contains instrumentation and multimedia system functions that display the vehicle, pedestrians, road signs, weather, and monitoring information about the driving environment around the vehicle, and the car's multimedia system also has a high-precision 3D real-world navigation system.
All of these 3D systems are powered by Sony's new Unreal Engine 5.3, which Sony says is open and can be loaded with third-party applications, the most attractive of which is Microsoft's Azure OpenAI application, which includes the famous ChatGPT feature.
According to Sony, with the support of ChatGPT, the artificial AI assistant on the Afeela electric car will become more powerful than ever, and as for how powerful it is, the chat area is not very clear, after all, this needs offline testing to be determined. But referring to the gap between ChatGPT and domestic AI applications, the intelligence of Sony's electric car seems to be worth looking forward to.
It is said that the intelligent assistant created by Sony based on ChatGPT will not only be able to interact with the driver by voice, control related functions according to instructions, provide environmental monitoring and warnings, but also be responsible for autonomous driving of the vehicle.
At present, the relevant specifications of the pre-production version of the Afeela have been announced: the car uses an all-wheel drive layout, and the chassis uses a double wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension.
In terms of power, it is equipped with two high-power drive motors at the front and rear, each with a maximum power of 245 horsepower and a combined power of 490 horsepower.
In terms of range, the new car is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 91 degrees, and if nothing else, it is likely to use Sony batteries, equipped with two charging ports: 150 kW DC and 11 kW AC.
In addition to Microsoft, Honda, and Sony, Polyphony Digital, a game studio known for its "Gran Turismo" series, also participated in the production of Afeela.
Summary of Liaoche Zone: At present, Sony and Honda have not announced the specific release date of the Afeela electric car, and Liaoche Zone predicts that it will be released in 2026 according to the information. One thing is certain, though, that Afeela's avatar will appear in the GT 7 game's expansion before the end of the year.
Here's the hope that it doesn't exist only in the game forever.
