Musk suddenly released "the strongest AI on the earth", and the global technology circle will fry again, and the opponent is not DeepSeek

Who is the opponent?

At noon on February 18, Beijing time, Musk's xAI company officially released a new generation of large model Grok 3. In order to prove that Grok 3 is "the smartest AI on the planet", Musk compared it with DeepSeek, Gemini, ChatGPT and other large models, such as Grok 3 ranks first in mathematics, science, programming and other reasoning capabilities, and also excels in other aspects.

In terms of performance alone, Grok 3 should not be underestimated, in addition to the simple retrieval of answers, it demonstrates strong reasoning ability, and Grok 3 can use computing resources more flexibly and efficiently.

Not on the same track as DeepSeek

Many people compare the performance of Grok 3 to DeepSeek, which is more one-sided. In fact, Grok 3 is not on the same track as DeepSeek, and it is not a direct competitor, and its competitor is still a closed-source high-performance large model, such as ChatGPT.

First of all, Musk invested 200,000 high-performance graphics cards at any cost to give birth to Grok 3. In other words, Grok 3 is still a miracle and creates high performance at a high cost, while DeepSeek focuses on cost-effectiveness and creates high efficiency with low cost.

Secondly, Grok 3 is still a closed-source model, although Musk said that in a few months, Grok 3 will be mature and stable, and then open source Grok 2. The "terrifyingly smart" Grok 3 may not be open source until Grok 4 is released, while DeepSeek relies on open source to instantly get out of the circle, seize the time window, and activate the entire AI ecosystem.

At the same time, the Grok 3 experience is limited. Currently, only X Premium+ subscribers can get the first taste of Grok 3, with more advanced features costing a hefty fee, with the SuperGrok premium subscription plan costing $30 per month and $300 per year, offering additional inference, deep search capabilities, and unlimited image generation. At present, the US account has been updated, but the UK and European accounts will be updated on February 28. It is conceivable that the Grok 3, which takes the "small but fine" route, will not bring a powerful shock wave for the time being, which is not the same as the "civilian" route of DeepSeek.

Compete for the next search portal

Another competitor to Grok 3 is the search engine, and its DeepSearch claims to be a next-generation search engine that acts like an AI agent to understand the intent behind the user's questions, without having to spend time Google searching, digesting, and summarizing. Ten minutes for the agent, one hour for the human Google.

After watching the live demonstration of DeepSearch, I admired Musk's genius marketing ability the most, and the problem he gave Grok 3 was to predict the number of wins and losses in the NCAA (March Madness), which was launched by Warren Buffett in 2014 and stakes up to a billion dollars. Historically, no one has succeeded in predicting because the probability of winning a bet is 1 in 1000 billion. Whether or not Grok 3 can be predicted, this in itself is eye-catching.

At the end of the press conference, Musk threw out another "easter egg", releasing a male voice that sounded unmachine-sounding, revealing its layout on the voice assistant, and it is expected to release an early version of the voice mode within a week.

Whether it is Grok 3, DeepSeek or ChatGPT, large models that are good at text generation are all rushing to the next super search entrance, so it should be Baidu, Google and other search engines that feel trembling at the moment.

More anxious than Musk is Robin Li, who not only overturned the "closed-source theory" and accurately announced that it will be fully open source from June 30, which is equivalent to giving an "order" with no way out, but also launched the full blood version of DeepSeek on Baidu Search.

Although Baidu search PC has not yet been accessed, but Baidu App has been connected to DeepSeek at the "AI+" search entrance, judging from the test of "IT Times", Baidu's own AI search and DeepSeek's generation effect is high and immediate, DeepSeek spits out the answer with a clear point of view, deep thinking, and Baidu's AI search only summarizes information. All the self-revolutionary behaviors can feel the "sense of crisis" of search engines.

I can only sigh here, Baidu always gets up early in the morning and rushes to a late set.

Self-opening up the ecological closed loop

It's "terrible cleverness"

According to the information revealed by xAI engineers, Grok 3 has only been running inside xAI for 2 weeks. This also reflects from the side that the AI giant wave set off by DeepSeek has made the large model truly a "top project", and all industry chain companies are catching up with innovation day and night, even Musk is no exception.

Musk's pressure to rush to success does not only come from the outside, in fact, Grok 3 is of greater significance to the ecology he has built, and business scenarios such as social platforms and autonomous driving can achieve each other.

Compared with its real competitor OpenAI, xAI's monetization path is richer, because Grok 3 can be bound to X's social ecosystem, and it can be monetized through personalized content creation and automated marketing solutions in the future, while OpenAI's monetization path is still membership subscription and API service fees.

Moreover, when the global large model is suffering from no real usable data, Tesla has a huge amount of autonomous driving visual data, and the large model can continuously draw multimodal data nourishment from it, so as to generate a powerful "autonomous driving brain", which can more accurately perceive the environment, carry out path planning and driving decisions, and thus achieve Tesla's autonomous driving.

Don't forget, Musk has also laid out humanoid robots, equipped with a large model of Optimus, which has the potential to lead to embodied intelligence.

Social platforms, new energy vehicles, humanoid robots, brain-computer interfaces, Musk has prepared a wealth of landing scenarios for large models.

Conversely, X's social data, Tesla's vehicle data, humanoid robots, and brain-computer interface data all provide inexhaustible nourishment for large models.

In addition, the Dojo supercomputing platform built by Musk for Tesla can also reduce the cost of AI research and development in other scenarios.

The trinity of scenes, data, and computing power, and self-opening up the ecological closed loop are the terrible things about Musk's big models, and they are also feared by domestic Internet manufacturers.
