Witness to the turning point in history -- Listening to the witness Zhang Dexin tell the story of the founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China, Premier Zhou shook his hand and said: You are the first president of the Kuomintang Changchun University to come to the Liberated Areas!

The founding ceremony of the People's Republic of China is a brilliant moment in the history of the Chinese nation. It marks the end of an old era and declares the beginning of a new one. October 1, 1989, was the 40th anniversary of the Republic. At that time, I was in charge of the supplement department of the Changchun Evening News, which had just been founded for less than two months. In order to make this issue of the newspaper both meaningful and readable, I decided to write an interview about the founding ceremony. I heard that Zhang Dexin, vice chairman of the Jilin Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, professor of Northeast Normal University, and famous mathematician, was one of the witnesses of this historical turning point, so I visited this ancient and rare old man.

Previously, I had done some desk homework, and I learned through the data that Zhang Dexin was born on March 18, 1905 in Dazhangjia Village, Wenji Township, Huangxian County, Shandong Province. In 1921, he was admitted to Huangxian Zhicheng Middle School. In 1925, he was admitted to the Beijing Salt Vocational College. In 1927, he also studied in the Mathematics Department of Beijing Normal University. After graduating from the Salt College in 1929, he served in the Jinan Salt Bureau and concurrently served as a teacher at Jinan Zhengyi Middle School. In August 1931, he went to Germany to study mathematics at the University of Berlin. In 1932 he joined the Anti-Japanese League in Germany and the following year he joined the Grand Anti-Imperialist League. In July 1937, he received his doctorate in mathematics, becoming the first Chinese to receive a doctorate in mathematics from the University of Berlin, Germany. In addition to being fluent in German, he is also fluent in English, Russian and French.

After returning to China, Zhang Dexin successively served as a professor at Northwest Union University, Northwest Normal University, and the head of the Department of Mathematics. In 1946 he was appointed provost and dean of the Faculty of Science at Changchun University. In June 1947, he acted as president of Changchun University. Because he hated the corrupt rule of the Kuomintang, on June 3, 1948, he escaped from the Changchun Guotong District in disguise and arrived in Harbin on August 20, where he was warmly welcomed by Chairman Lin Feng of the Northeast Administrative Committee and people from all walks of life. In September 1949, he was appointed Vice President of Northeastern University and awarded the title of Professor.

On the eve of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Zhang Dexin was invited to attend the first plenary session of the political consultative conference of the Chinese. He has served as a deputy to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th National People's Congress, vice chairman of the 1st to 6th Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference of Jilin Province, vice mayor of Changchun City, vice chairman of Jilin Provincial Association for Science and Technology, chairman of Jilin Provincial Mathematical Society, and chairman of Changchun Natural Science Federation. His major works include The Theory of Integers. As vice president and professor of Northeast Normal University for more than 30 years, he has trained generations of college students, peach and plum all over the world.

Knowing that the topic of my interview was the founding ceremony, Zhang Dexin said excitedly: "Yes, it was an unforgettable moment. Not only did I participate, but I also climbed the Tiananmen Tower and stood behind Chairman Mao and Premier Zhou. As he spoke, he took out a beautifully bound book with gold letters. The cover of the book is printed with 20 characters of "Commemorative Journal of the First Plenary Session of the Chinese Political Consultative Conference", which was published in 1949. 40 years later, the pages have turned yellow, but they are still well preserved, which shows how much the owner cherishes. While flipping through the "Commemorative Journal," Elder Zhang introduced it to me: "I attended the first SESSION of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference as a non-party figure in the Northeast Liberated Area at that time. The official representatives of the northeast are 15 people, including Zhou Baozhong and Yu Yifu, and I and a worker are alternate representatives. At that time, the people's congress had not yet been convened, so the CPPCC 'had the nature of representing the people of the whole country', represented the will of the people of the whole country, and carried out the functions and powers of the NATIONAL PEOPLE's congress. The first session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference began on September 21, 1949. In 10 days, important bills such as the Common Program were adopted, and the national anthem, national emblem, and national flag were determined. On October 1, all delegates and newly elected national leaders ascended Tiananmen Square to hold the founding ceremony. ”

Zhang Dexin told me that he was lucky enough to stand just a few steps away from Chairman Mao. When Chairman Mao announced that "the people of Chinese have since stood up," his agitated mood could not be calmed for a long time. As an intellectual from old China, he had personally witnessed how the Chinese were subjected to imperialist enslavement and oppression; when he studied in Germany, he had personally experienced the discrimination and bullying of foreigners. At this time, his heart was filled with a sense of divine pride. He remembers that a few days ago, when Premier Zhou was giving a banquet to non-party deputies, someone introduced: "This is Zhang Dexin, a representative of the Northeast Liberated Area. The premier immediately shook his hand and said, "Ah, you are the first president of the Kuomintang Changchun University to come to the Liberated Areas!" ”

I told Mr. Zhang Dexin that Changying filmed a huge film "The Founding Ceremony", which artistically reproduced the moment of the historic turning point of our country, which will be screened during the National Day. Elder Zhang listened and said very happily, "It's very meaningful, I must take a look." ”

In 1990, the State Education Commission specially gave Zhang Dexin a piece of paperweight engraved on it: "Old Ji Futuo, Determined in a Thousand Miles, Peach and Plum Do Not Speak, and Become Self-Made." On the eve of the Spring Festival in 1991, he fell seriously ill and was admitted to the hospital. On October 25, 1992, Zhang Dexin died of stomach bleeding due to cirrhosis of the liver at the age of 87.

More than 30 years later, Zhang Dexin's voice and smile are still clearly in my memory. I guess if the old man had a spirit in heaven and would be very happy to learn that China is so prosperous and strong today.
