Li

Hello everyone, I'm Lantai.

Today, Lantai would like to introduce to you a little-known bursary fund - Sangzi Bursary Fund.

Sangzi Scholarship Foundation, founded in 2004, is a scholarship foundation located in Baodi District, Tianjin.

The first chairman and vice chairman of the foundation were Su Qingyu, vice president of the China Charity Federation, and Hou Jun, a famous model of educated youth and the "Iron Girl".

As of the end of 2023, the Sangzi Scholarship Fund has silently funded thousands of poor college students to complete their studies.

The founder of this scholarship fund is Li Ruihuan, former chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and former secretary of the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee.

In fact, as early as 1996, Mr. Li Ruihuan, who was still the chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, began to quietly use his salary to subsidize college students who were living in difficulty in the name of "an old Communist Party member".

According to Fang Fang, who helped Mr. Li Ruihuan with financial assistance in 2006, he told the Beijing News that in 1996, Li Ruihuan took the initiative to find him and gave him 50,000 yuan (Li Ruihuan's manuscript fee) to help him handle the matter of subsidizing poor college students, and asked him to keep it strictly secret and not allow Li Ruihuan's name to be revealed.

After that, Fang Fang handed over the 50,000 yuan to the Tianjin Municipal Committee of Education and Health in the name of "an old Communist Party member", and 12 poor college students received financial assistance that year, and only one of them was a native of Tianjin.

After Li Ruihuan retired, he once talked about why he wanted to sponsor poor college students at a symposium, and he said that if he could not finish college because of financial difficulties, it would be the regret of the student's life:

If a young man has the opportunity to go to school and cannot do so due to financial difficulties, it will be the regret of his life.

Why is Mr. Li Ruihuan so touched by the fact that poor students cannot go to school? This is inseparable from his own personal experience.

Li Ruihuan was born in Baodi, Tianjin in 1934, but Baodi was not a district of Tianjin at that time, but a county of Hebei Province. It was not until 1960 that Baodi was assigned to Tianjin.

Li Ruihuan's family is very poor, Li Ruihuan's parents have a total of seven children, and the whole family only has a few acres of thin fields, and they live in very poverty; Li Ruihuan has been smart since he was a child, and his parents gritted their teeth and sent him to elementary school because he was smart, but after graduating from primary school, his parents could no longer afford Li Ruihuan to go to school, and as a result, Li Ruihuan, who had the best grades in the class, could only go home to work as a farmer and could not continue to go to school, so Li Ruihuan tried every means to study, and even one year in order to buy books, he had a conflict with his mother, and he ran out barefoot on the night of the thirtieth day of the lunar month, freezing for a night:

Later, my mother took me home, took my hand and cried, "Mom knows that you like books, and reading is a good thing, but how can our family have the money to buy you books?"

Although Li Ruihuan later stood out with his hard work, innovative skills, hard work and other qualities, became a model worker, and gradually stepped into a leadership position, he still felt very sorry that he could not continue his studies back then, so he began to quietly sponsor poor college students from all over the country studying in Tianjin in 1996.

As of 2023, the Sangzi Scholarship Fund has funded thousands of poor college students to successfully complete their studies.

In addition to subsidizing poor college students, Mr. Li Ruihuan also has a lot of shining points.

Li Ruihuan hates those who look down on the working people at the grassroots level, especially the sanitation workers.

Mr. Li Ruihuan has said many times that whether he is respected or not has nothing to do with how much money a person has, how much status he has, and how much knowledge he has; many people look down on sanitation workers, but he has an old friend named Shi Chuanxiang (a dung digger in Beijing and a well-known model worker in the country), and when he died, a memorial service was held, and the Babaoshan Great Spiritual Hall could not stand up to the people who spontaneously attended his memorial service, and even the outside was full of people.

Li Ruihuan has also repeatedly bitterly criticized those who look down on grassroots workers:

No matter who you are, no matter how noble you are, no matter how much you think you are great, looking at it in the septic tank, is a virtue. Some people just don't admit it when they mention their pants. People who look down on sanitation workers are those who forget that they are also. Originally, the socialist countries should have solved this problem well. Why did Comrade Shaoqi meet with Shi Chuanxiang? Why did Premier Zhou invite Shi Chuanxiang to Zhongnanhai......? Intellectuals are needed by the state, and it is right to respect them, commend them, give them some treatment, and publicize their important role and significance, but don't say that others are not important, you are important, but I will dig it out for you if you, is it important or not?

This kind of love and respect for the working people at the grassroots level has always been the most distinctive characteristic of Li Ruihuan.

In 2002, Li Ruihuan officially retired.

After retiring, Li Ruihuan put all his energy into subsidizing poor college students.

Not only in 2004, he founded the Sangzi Scholarship Fund, but also in order to raise funds for the foundation, he took out the oil paintings of Mr. Wu Guanzhong, which he had treasured for 30 years, for auction, and donated all the proceeds from the auction to the Sangzi Scholarship Fund.

The Sangzi Bursary Fund not only subsidizes poor students to study, but also supports those who are seriously ill, for example, the Sangzi Bursary Fund has subsidized students suffering from leukemia.

Li Ruihuan is also very strict with his children.

His two sons graduated from world-renowned universities, the eldest son graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the second son graduated from Illinois State University.

After graduating from university, the two sons returned to China to work according to Li Ruihuan's requirements, and they did not enter government agencies and large state-owned enterprises, but worked in ordinary enterprises.

At present, both sons have become well-known investors in China, and have founded Schunk Capital and Fude Capital respectively to contribute to the country's economic development.
