Cao Xun, son of Cao Zhen and brother of Cao Shuang. There are few records of Cao Xun in the historical records, and most of them are related to his brother Cao Shuang. After the death of the Wei Ming Emperor Cao Rui in the second year of the Jing Dynasty (238), Cao Shuang and Sima Yi jointly entrusted the orphan auxiliary government. Cao Shuang squeezed out Sima Yi and made all his brothers important positions in the imperial court, forming a political group with a strong apparent strength to succeed to the throne. However, in the first ten years (249), Sima Yi used Cao Shuang to accompany the Wei emperor Cao Fang to carry out a coup d'état to visit the tomb of Emperor Gaoping of Wei and take control of the military government of Luoyang. The Cao Shuang brothers were all deprived of their military powers, and soon beheaded for treason, wiping out the three tribes.

Cao Xun's position in Cao Shuang's political clique was crucial, and some inferences can be made from his position as a General of the Wu Wei.

The General of Wu Wei was the Wei Emperor Cao Pi, and the first was the famous general Xu Chu. The Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms and the Biography of Xu Chu reads: "Emperor Wen jian, the Marquis of Long Live Ting, the general of Qianwu Wei, and the governor of the Chinese army. It can be seen that General Wu Wei has a heavy responsibility to control the important authority of the Forbidden Army. Cao Shuang was worshiped as a general and served as a general of the Wu Wei. Moreover, before Emperor Wei Ming's deathbed, He ordered Cao Shuangtuo to be a lone assistant to the government, and only then did he promote him to a great general. Cao Shuang then succeeded Cao Xun as the general of Wu Wei, which shows that Cao Shuang attaches great importance to Cao Xun, and it is not an exaggeration to say that he is the second most important person in the military aspects of Cao Shuang's clique.

However, although the Cao Shuang brothers all held important positions and ostensibly controlled the government, they actually had no vision and sense of crisis. In the first ten years of the Gaopingling Incident, all of Cao Shuang's brothers accompanied Emperor Wei to Gaopingling, and Luoyang in Kyoto soon fell into the hands of Sima Yi. The Cao Shuang brothers had a bunch of general titles in the air, and Cao Xun, who nominally controlled the forbidden army, did not see any action, and he perished with his brothers.
