Here it is again
The latest news points out: Canada's favorite tourist paradise Mexico has another accident, and a Canadian has been killed in a shooting incident in a resort shopping mall!
On December 13, Mexican authorities revealed that a shooting broke out in Cancun, a world-famous resort on the Caribbean coast, and that someone had opened fire inside a shopping mall, causing bloodshed.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found dead and wounded, among whom one of the victims was a Canadian citizen!
As the Mexican police have not released more information at this stage, the specific information about the Canadian is not clear, only that the shooting took place in a gym in a shopping mall.
It was confirmed that the individual had a criminal record in Canada, had links to gang activities, and had been charged with possession of illegal funds.
At this time, the Canadian Office of Global Affairs has not responded.
However, this is no longer a Canadian with a criminal background who was killed in Mexico.
In January 2022, two Canadians were killed at a resort near Playa del Carmen, another popular tourist attraction.
The results of the investigation at the time revealed that it was a murder triggered by a debt between international drug and arms trafficking rings, and one of the Canadians was wanted by Interpol.
Even ordinary tourists have been killed in Cancun one after another, and there have been several bloody cases of Canadians killed in Cancun this year alone.
This spring, Kiara Agnew, a 24-year-old Canadian woman, traveled with her boyfriend to Cancun.
Chiara stayed with a hotel in the small town of Playa del Carmen, on the Riviera de Maya, a resort south of Cancun.
Mexico's sunny coast is a beautiful place to stay, and both men enjoyed the trip, planning to go out to sea, snorkel and visit the ruins of the Mayan civilization.
Throughout the trip, Kiara kept in touch with her family, the last time on the evening of March 2, when her aunt received a call from her.
But since then, Kiara has not been heard from.
The next day, the family received news from her again, that is, she died.
It is understood that Kiara's body was found in a laundry room of the hotel, with signs of violence, when a man slept next to him and was subsequently arrested.
The arrested suspect is also Canadian, 26 years old, whose personal information has not been released, and it is not known if it is Kiara's boyfriend.
Kiara's aunt, Katlyn Levesque, said that her niece's trip was actually to celebrate her upcoming 24th birthday, but her life was forever stuck at 23 years old and could not move forward.
Kiara grew up in New Brunswick, Canada, and as a teenager, moved to Dawson Creek, BC, a town of 12,000 residents who all knew each other. When they heard the bad news, they were deeply saddened and shocked.
Kiara, an employee of Lake View Credit Union, a local credit union, later expressed her condolences: "This is a devastating tragedy for our community. ”
Relatives and friends said that although Kiara is young, she works hard and is self-motivated, brave, kind, caring, and energetic, and she has a heart of gold.
"It's so unfair that she's so young, and she's going to have a long life to go through! ”
Originally for a birthday party, but now preparing for the funeral, Kiara's family is grappling with grief and preparing to bring her back and raise money online for the transportation of her body and the cost of the funeral.
A while ago, Canada issued a travel warning for Mexico. It's another year's winter holiday, and it is expected that there will be waves of tourists flying to the Sunshine Coast, I hope everyone can play happily and go home safely~
