Since 1959, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences has been carrying out the work of southern breeding in Hainan. We have 12 bases all year round, and more than 1,000 people carry out Nanfan here every winter.
The mission of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences is to focus on production, cultivate high-yield, high-quality and multi-resistant varieties, improve the yield and quality of crops, and ensure our demand for food security. Hainan has unique climatic conditions, which provides a natural greenhouse for the breeding and generation of varieties, the domestication of varieties, and the innovation of germplasm resources. So here, we can work around the clock, all the time.
In 2019, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences officially registered and established the National Institute of Southern Breeding of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Sanya. The goal of "Nanfan Academy" has three words, the first is a new type of R&D institution, the second is the general grasp of docking with national laboratories, and the third is a bridgehead facing the world and facing the world.
At present, 15 innovation teams have taken root in Sanya and carry out scientific research around the clock. At the same time, there are nearly 300 graduate students, more than 60 postdoctoral fellows, and a working class of more than 20 people, who work here all year round like me.
With the gradual advancement of the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences will make due contributions to our national food security, agricultural production, and innovation of germplasm resources.
