In 1269, Huang Gongwang was born in Changshu, Jiangsu Province. He was the biggest loser of that era, reading the Four Books and Five Classics from a young age, taking the examination, and only at the age of 45 did he become a scribe in the Lian Visiting Division of Western Zhejiang. Huang Gongwang wanted to learn to paint, and when he thought of it, he immediately went to learn it. In the seventh year of the Yuan Dynasty, Huang Gongwang was 79 years old.

It was autumn and the leaves were falling. Huang Gongwang and his disciples were useless and traveled from Songjiang to Fuyang, Zhejiang. Only to see the fuchun river, the river surface like practice, fishing and singing late, he said to the useless: I am not leaving, I stay to paint.

Huang Gongwang sat down alone, calm and relaxed. No matter how much the useless disciple tried to persuade him, he didn't move at all. The useless master and disciple had to swim alone. 79-year-old Huang Gongwang lives in Fuyang, and every day he is alone, going to the Fuchun River alone to watch the mountains and water.

At noon one day, Huang Gongwang came to the stork mountain rock head on the east side of the city, sat on the reef by the Fuchun River, took out a pen and paper, and began to paint on the riverbank. Suddenly someone behind him pushed him into the river. The person who pushed him was Wang Qida, the nephew of Huang Gongwang's former boss Zhang Lu.

When Huang Gongwang confessed Zhang Lu's crimes in prison, Wang Qida held a grudge in his heart, and this hatred was that after finding Huang Gongwang's whereabouts for 30 years, he secretly poisoned Huang Gongwang to death. Huang Gongwang fell into the river and almost died, when a woodcutter passed by, threw his burden and jumped into the river, saving Huang Gongwang.

The woodcutter said to him: Since someone wants to harm you, you are so old and you can't protect yourself, my family lives on the mountain by the river, you live in my house.

Huang Gongwang staggered and followed the woodcutter down the river, walking less than ten miles to a ravine called Miaoshanwu. When I climbed a mountain beam, a raised flat land appeared in front of me, and there were seven or eight families living sporadically.

It is surrounded by mountains on three sides and faces the river on the other, resembling a bamboo basket for rice. Huang Gongwang lived there for four years. In the past four years, as soon as the day dawned, Huang Gongwang wore bamboo knacks and wore mangshoe shoes to go out, walking dozens of miles along the river, rain or shine.

When he came to the bazaar, he spread out the piece of paper. Immediately, a buyer came over, took out ten pieces of silver, bought it, and left. The woodcutter was very surprised, he was cutting firewood for a year, and he could not earn more than ten pieces of silver.

After that, Huang Gongwang asked the woodcutter to sell one painting every two or three months, and all the proceeds from the sale of the painting received the villagers. This village was cultivated into a well-off village by Huang Gongwang's paintings.

Huang Gongwang, who was weeping with joy, did not say a word, quietly painted the inscription on the scroll, and raised his hand to give the "Fuchun Mountain Residence Map" that he had spent all his life to give to the useless master and disciple.

After four years of painstaking efforts, Huang Gongwang did not care at all, rather than obtaining a floating name, it was better to have a gentleman's friendship. Compared with the current people, Huang Gongwang is really free, but also really open, he is like a flower planter, planting, fertilizing, and then spending years waiting for the flower to bloom, the flower blooms for a moment, but he picks the flower and raises his hand to give it to others.

True openness is to enjoy the process of pursuit and never care about the gain or loss of the result. The real freedom is Guangsha Wanjian, I sleep no more than seven feet at night, a thousand acres of fertile land, and I can't eat three meals a day. A year later, Huang Gongwang passed away with a long smile. It is still conceivable that 663 years ago, an old man of the Yuan Dynasty died, and when he died, his face must have been extremely peaceful and smiling. His whole life went without regrets!

After Huang Gongwang's death, the experience of this painting is even more bizarre.

In a certain year and month of the Ming Dynasty, this painting reached the hands of Shen Zhou, the four great talents of Jiangnan, who regarded it as a treasure, but late one night, the painting disappeared and then completely disappeared in history. Another one hundred and fifty years later, in the seventh year of Shunzhi (1650), the "Fuchun Mountain Jutu" suddenly appeared in the hands of the famous collector Wu Hongyu, who collected tens of thousands of items, but only loved the "Fuchun Mountain Jutu". I value painting more than life.

Before his death, the dying Wu Hongyu lay on the bed and spat out a word to his family: "Burn! ”

The family watched Wu Hongyu's last breath and could not swallow, so when his face began to burn "Fuchun Mountain Jutu", just when the painting was put into the brazier, his nephew Wu Jing'an arrived and pulled the painting out of the brazier.

Unfortunately, this painting has been burned into two sections, the first half of which is called "Leftover Mountain Map", and the second half is called "Useless Master Scroll". In 1938, "Leftover Mountain Map" entered the Zhejiang Museum, and in 1948, "Useless Master Scroll" arrived in Taiwan. Since then, the "Fuchun Mountain Residence Map" has been separated by two sections.

On June 1, 2011, exactly 361 years passed since the year when Wu Hongyu burned the painting. The two sections of the "Fuchun Mountain Jutu", the "Useless Master Volume" and the "Leftover Mountain Map" were officially re-encountered at the National Palace Museum in Taipei after being separated. Cultural people on both sides of the strait say that this is called: "the combination of mountains and rivers"!
