Zhai Xiangjun, the translator and famous translator of "Gone with the Wind", has passed away

The Paper (www.thepaper.cn) reporter learned from Mr. Zhai Xiangjun's relatives and friends that Zhai Xiangjun, a famous translator and professor at Fudan University, died of illness on the morning of July 8, 2019 at the age of 80.

According to public information, Zhai Xiangjun was a professor of English at Fudan University, the director of the English teaching department of the university, and the vice president of the Shanghai Translators Association. Zhai Xiangjun has edited a variety of textbooks such as "University English" (Intensive Reading) of Shanghai Foreign Language Education Publishing House and "21st Century College English" of Fudan University Press, which have influenced generations of students across the country. His translations include Gone with the Wind, The Money Merchant and The Sin of Father Amaro.

Zhai Xiangjun once participated in the compilation of the English-Chinese Dictionary together with the famous translator Professor Lu Gusun.

According to the News and Culture Network of Fudan University, on November 18, 2016, the "Professor Lu Gusun Academic Thought Seminar" was held at Fudan University. Professor Lu Gusun's former friends, colleagues and students attended. The delegates spoke and reviewed Professor Lu Gusun's life from the perspectives of being a person, a scholar, and a teacher. Among them, Professor Zhai Xiangjun started from the compilation of English-Chinese bilingual dictionaries, and talked about the rigor of Professor Lu Gusun's governance and his dedication to dictionary compilation.
