Just days after two women were attacked separately on a famous tourist beach in Egypt, a great white shark appeared off the coast of Marmaris in southwestern Turkey.
Horrific footage shows swimmers attacking sharks with mops, trying to drive it away to avoid attacking humans.
The video was shared on social media by onlookers as the deadly creature swam toward a beach full of children.
As it floats off the coast of Marmaris in southwestern Turkey, sharks' fins can be seen sticking out of the water.
As sharks circle around them, locals and tourists appear to be standing in shallow water.
Others in the background can be seen pointing in horror, others jumping into the water while the monsters swirl around their feet.
To rescue them, a citizen approached the shark and began hitting it on the head with a mop.
After a few impacts, the shark appeared to swim in the other direction — away from the crowds — as swimmers stayed where they were to make sure it left.
The Mediterranean sea is considered home to 47 species of sharks, including blue sharks, sledgehammer sharks and great white sharks.
However, although great white sharks are the most dangerous ones, they are rarely seen.
