According to overseas news reports, Somali pirates recently claimed to have released the hijacked bulk carrier MV ABDULLAH and its 23 crew members on April 14 after receiving a ransom of $5 million, and the Bangladesh-flagged bulk carrier MV ABDULLAH was carrying 55,000 tons of thermal coal at the time.
The Deputy General Manager of KSRM Group confirmed that the bulk carrier MV ABDULLAH was seized by Somali pirates on March 12, and after being held for nine days, Somali pirates contacted KSRM Group to demand a ransom payment, and after 32 days of tug-of-war, KSRM Group released the vessel on April 14 after paying the ransom of $5 million demanded by the pirates.
The bulk carrier MV ABDULLAH is currently safely heading to the UAE port of Hamria and is expected to arrive at the port on April 21.
It is important to note that this is not the first time that the KSRM Group has been attacked by Somali pirates, as earlier in 2010 another vessel belonging to the KSRM Group, called MV Jahan Moni, was also hijacked by Somali pirates, and it took the KSRM Group 99 days to rescue the vessel.
