Xiao Xiangyu, whose artistic achievements have reached the peak of her profession, began to think about teaching her children what she had learned and passing on the art of Yu opera. In 1995, she personally created the Shanxi Xiaoxiangyu Hope Art School to cultivate Yu opera talents.

The purpose of the establishment of the school is to cultivate small drama talents, mainly to absorb children in poor rural areas, but also to solve their problems of supporting their families with art. The effect is very good, children from Shanxi, Henan, Shaanxi and other places signed up enthusiastically, and dozens of children started a new life.

In the next few years, Xiao Xiangyu's art school children appeared on the stage of the CCTV Spring Festival Gala for 6 consecutive times. The effort was not in vain.

At the end of the 1980s, Xiao Xiangyu and Yu opera actor Wu Chenmin had a love affair because of the drama, and met and fell in love when filming the movie "Mandarin Duck Playing in the Water".
