There is a beauty that belongs exclusively to water: the Turkish painter Rukiye Garip with her "Watercolor Water"

Transparency allows the fool to contemplate the illusory reality; mapping allows the wise to witness the opposite apparition. The study of water made me reflect on the present life and the cycle of life, and between the thoroughness of selflessness and honest feedback, water always exhilarated me.

Like water

Looking back on my childhood and youth is a period of memories that reassure me and comfort me to move forward, which contains all the things I care about most... It's like water.

Seeing the flow and stillness of the water has achieved countless extraordinary inspirations and ideas, and I can fully feel the joy and happiness of blending into it... It's like water.

When gentle, water can give birth to life; when it is cold, water can dissolve time. For Ruki Galip, water seemed to have an irresistible magic that as a child, she began to observe water. From the reflection of the lake to the waves on the seashore, from the swimming fish under the blue waves to the falling leaves that drift with the waves, whenever he sees the water, Ruki Galip will always look at it selflessly, as if there is always a sense of beauty, special and unrecognizable by others.

Yes, in Ruki Galip's eyes, the water of nature accumulates energy, reflects light, and countless lives reincarnate here. Its clarity often makes people ignore its depth and breadth, and its colorlessness brings excitement to the places it accommodates, carries, penetrates, and reaches. As an artist, Ruki Garip only wanted to paint as much of the natural water that was rapidly disappearing as possible and leave his own tiny joy in a few tiny details.

Water reflects the color of the atmosphere, and the biggest mistake when painting water is to go against its nature. Mistakes occur when you don't show in an appropriate way what appears under the surface of the water, what floats on the surface of the water, and what is reflected on the surface of the water. The hardest part of this is to depict the reflection of light and the transparency of water, so I need to get close to water and it will tell me how to paint correctly.

Meet watercolors

Born in Baltin, Turkey, in 1964, Ruki Ghalip graduated from the Painting Department of the Faculty of Vocational Education of Gazi University in 1985. After graduation, she lived in Ankara and worked in graphic design. In 1987, Ruki Garlip started a ceramics studio with friends and worked there for two years. She began teaching art in several cities in Turkey since 1989, teaching for 20 years before retiring in 2008, when her son had just turned 10.

During the 20 years of constant busyness for career, marriage, and children, it was extremely difficult to find enough time to devote to creation. This situation improved dramatically after Ruki Kerip's retirement, and she began experimenting with oil paints, crayons, pencils and charcoal to paint her long-held dreams. Finally, at the end of 2013, Ruki Galip painted her first watercolor painting, and the long-lost excitement rose as the paint faded in the water, and at that moment she realized that she had found the best partner in her creation.

Among them, at an exhibition in Greece, her works were purchased by many institutions and became a small local news. The news spread back to Turkey, and Ruki Kerip's popularity in the country began to climb, and major art fairs threw olive branches at her. That year, Ruki Garlip officially kicked off her watercolor career.

"If, I'm a man"

Due to regional and cultural differences, the roles given to women by society are also obviously tainted with distinct national characteristics. In Turkey, a female artist often needs to put in more effort to balance her career with family responsibilities. Ruki Galip says that whenever she had to stop painting and go on housework to play a qualified housewife, she always fantasized that she was no longer a woman, but a man.

If I were a man, as a married watercolor painter with children, I think I would definitely be given more and more effective time and space to develop my career. I'm lucky to have a husband who is always available to support and inspire me, which allows me to be more at ease between painting and life. And in the art world, while I don't want to admit that women are weaker than men, I can't deny that when a woman picks up a paintbrush, she will have to face more struggles and struggles.

Rukiye Garip

Today, retiring together, painting together, and traveling the world together to participate in art exhibitions have become the new life of Ruki Galip and her husband. Although the praise and criticism she has received since Ruki Garip shared her first watercolor painting on social media, the voices of the outside world have not changed the original intention and direction of her creation, and she has always believed that harm can always be turned into armor, the work will eventually present the truth, and the best answer is on the road forward with more determination.
