So we have to think about a question, why does Yingchun have such a cowardly character? In our view, there should be at least two reasons:
1. The problem of the original family has caused Yingchun to suffer too much since childhood.
Yingchun is not Jia Yu's concubine, but Jia Yu's more decent concubine (because Lady Xing said that her mother was stronger than Aunt Zhao), it is reasonable that Yingchun should grow up to be stronger than Tanchun, but unfortunately her mother died prematurely, Yingchun became a person without her mother's care, living in front of the eyes of the lustful, new and tired of the old Jia Amnesty and the snobbish, strong Lady Xing, Yingchun's entire childhood was naturally not good, at least not valued, and may even be treated roughly.

Therefore, Yingchun has felt her own smallness since childhood, surviving in a large family, she feels helplessness everywhere, she cannot form a sound personality, after encountering things, the first thing that comes to mind is fear, is to withdraw. As Ou Lijuan said, she developed a kind of "sick obedience", she would directly admit her weakness when things happened, immediately belittle herself, and tend to accept the opinions of strong and powerful people or the traditional worldly and authoritative ideas.
She suppresses all her inner abilities (Yingchun's Go is well played, she is certainly capable), makes herself small, and avoids criticizing others, avoiding quarrels and competition, and acting "beneficial" to anyone. Her inner conscious motivation is that if I give up on myself, obey someone and help him, I can avoid being hurt. In fact, under the cannibalistic system and in the face of cruel family realities, her ideas were too naïve and idealistic.
2. The cultivation of acquired kindness. Yingchun's weak and deceived childhood made her form a kind nature, she has a kind heart, she is kind to others, but also hope that others will reciprocate kindness, her only favorite reading is "Taishang Induction" (note, we go through "The Red Chamber" and can no longer find Yingchun's second reading), she even put it on the pillow, and can read it at any time.

The opening chapter of the Taishang Induction chapter says: "Taishang Yue: There is no way out of misfortune, but people call themselves; the reward of good and evil follows like a shadow." The general outline of this "Taishang Induction Chapter" is actually Yingchun's mindset, she believes that if you are good with people, you will have good rewards, and if you are evil with people, you will get evil rewards. In the final analysis, she believes in karma, so Dai Yu laughs at her as "the tiger and the wolf are in the ranks, and they still talk about cause and effect."
We all know that the cowardly Yingchun was finally married to Sun Shaozu by Jia Shu, and finally was trampled to death within a year, her character determined her life, and her end, when she was very young, was already doomed.
Let's turn the book back and look at the cry of the eightieth spring return:
"I don't believe my life is so bad!" From childhood, there was no mother, fortunately, the aunt's side had a few years of pure heart, and now it is such a result! ”
She will never return to her paradise, and the quiet time in Daguanyuan is the only happy time in her life, her cowardice, her smallness, her kindness, her tragic end, all worthy of our tears of sympathy for her.
