According to Korean media, Lee Ken-hee, like his father and Lee Byung-cheol, the founder of Samsung Group, loves to collect ancient art works, and the number of personal collections ranks first in South Korea. After Lee's death, his bequest was announced on April 28, 2021, that he would donate 23,000 exquisite items from Lee's lifetime collection to institutions such as the National Museum of Central And the National Museum of Modern Art. The collection includes many national treasures, as well as paintings by famous Western artists such as Chagall, Monet and Picasso. According to the 2021 estimates of the Korean art community, the value of the donated art works will reach 2 to 3 trillion won (about 10.3 billion to 15.5 billion yuan) based on the appraisal estimate.

Last year's special exhibition of Lee Kin-hee's collection was held at the National Museum of China and the National Museum of Modern Art, but this year's exhibition has expanded to bring together works from seven art museums across the country. The exhibition will feature 295 sets (355 pieces) of the collection, including 6 sets (13 pieces) of national treasures such as the "Three Statues of the Golden and Bronze Bodhisattvas" and 15 sets (20 pieces) of treasures such as the "Bronze Incense Burner of Fengye Temple".

The exhibition consists of two parts, "Introducing My Home" and "Introducing My Collection", which highlight the diversity of Lee Kin Hee's collection. The first part focuses on the eyes and preferences of donors, exhibiting paintings by domestic and foreign masters such as Kim Hwan Ki, Jang Wook-jin, and Monet, while the second part will feature pottery, metal crafts, landscape paintings, and Buddhist paintings on four small themes.

It is reported that in order to avoid the damage of light radiation to the exhibits, some calligraphy and painting works are only exhibited for 1 to 2 months. The painting "Inwang Ji Se Tu" (No. 216 National Treasure) by the mid-Joseon Dynasty painter Jeong Jong-do will be on display until May, while kim Hong-do's Autumn Sound Futu (Treasure No. 1393), a giant of the late Joseon Dynasty, was only released in June. In addition, works such as the Goryeo Buddhist painting "Thousand Hands Kannon Bodhisattva Diagram" will also be released for a limited time. (End)
