In July 2019, after 7 years of studying archaeology, I officially entered the Collection And Conservation Department of the National Museum of China. I still remember when I first arrived at work, I was excited for a while, the cultural relics that appeared in the textbooks of the past student days were close at hand, and the thickest treasures from the wordless wilderness appeared in front of me. With the development of the training courses in the museum and the study of the operation rules of the storage work, I have gradually realized my responsibilities as a direct contact and manager of these precious historical relics.
The basic work of collection storage mainly includes registration, cataloguing, warehousing, nursing, withdrawal, etc., with a relatively standardized work process and extremely strict working standards, considering the "irreversibility" of cultural relics damage, each librarian needs to maintain the highest degree of concentration and concentration in daily work, to ensure that cultural relics in each move and transfer process, there will be no appearance damage or loss due to human negligence, to ensure that the collection of cultural relics to maintain their inherent appearance and the original information they carry.
The collection of the museum is complex and quiet, in addition to the day-to-day inventory of the collection of cultural relics and the inspection of the status of the collection, the inspection of the cultural relics warehouse environment, and the timely discovery of cultural relics and hidden dangers of collections. It is also necessary to have absolute patience to understand each collection kept by individuals, to clarify where they come from and what kind of story they carry, and to familiarize themselves with every "scar" they carried before entering the museum, so as to cooperate with the use of the collection in the exhibition work and ensure their every appearance and safe return.
Therefore, when the excitement subsides, it is inevitable to start thinking in the daily work of overlapping rules and regulations: In addition to dutifully guarding the collection of cultural relics, what does this work that needs to be adhered to for a long time mean to me personally? As a new employee who has recently known Guobo, I have always wavered in happiness and trance, sheltered by the knowledge and teachings of the experts in the museum, and often clamoring about whether leaving the school will slack off, and finally flowing into the anxiety of a pragmatic person who lives a muddy life.
However, with the accumulation of work experience and the development of a number of work around the extension of cultural relics in the collection, I realized that in fact, the collection preservation work itself is a lifelong learning journey, and the cultural relics warehouse is our best learning platform. Because the management of the museum's collections not only includes the daily custody and access of the collections, but also at another level, it should also include professional research around the collection management behavior itself.
In the process of grading the cultural relics in the collection, we follow the experts and scholars in various professional directions to learn how to distinguish the chronological characteristics of cultural relics in different periods; in the days of daily inventory and inspection of the cultural relics in the collection, experienced colleagues and teachers teach us how to accumulate professional knowledge of different types of cultural relics while meditating on the objects; while collecting digital information on the cultural relics in the collection, we can closely observe each ornament and every line of inscriptions in the collection of cultural relics When assisting the curatorial department in the exhibition of cultural relics, we can quickly understand the historical value of each cultural relic and its position in the long river of civilization and the archaeological culture it represents...
Therefore, these seemingly ordinary and complicated jobs will not consume our vision and enthusiasm for cultural and cultural work, but will urge us to continuously improve our professional knowledge reserves and business levels year by year, so as to better protect the preservation of collections and deepen our personal awe for the cultural and cultural industry, the past, and knowledge and truth. At the same time, in the process of "getting along" with ancient cultural relics, we also slowly learn how to uphold a truth-seeking and pragmatic heart to shoulder the heavy responsibility entrusted to us by society to protect historical civilization, and treat work and life with a strict and rigorous code of conduct.
On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the establishment of the National Museum of China, I am about to enter the third year of work, thanks to the vast historical and cultural treasure house of the National Expo for giving me the most superior learning and growth environment, and I will do my best to follow the path of my predecessors in the limited working time, and follow the National Museum into the next infinite long journey.
