Judging from the history of automobile development in the past century, there are many classic models in the world, and many familiar names are still active on the stage of the automobile market. However, in the history of China's automobile development, after all, our automobile market has not really developed for a long time, and there are not many models that can be called classics. According to our observation, these classic models have a common feature - at least three generations of models have appeared in China, and all have left a deep imprint of the times.
As a senior automotive media person, I have the privilege of witnessing the history of China's automobile development in the past 15 years, with the advent of the 2020s, the car from design to production, and even the power form is undergoing great changes, so many classic models have made changes in time to appear in front of everyone with a new attitude.
For example, the new Ford Mondeo we're test driving today.
The test drive includes dynamic test drives, static experiences, and an interesting test session – fuel consumption tests. Like everyone else, we are also curious about the standard set of 2.0T+8AT powertrain of the new Mondeo series, whether the power is strong, whether the car is moving or not, and what is the fuel consumption in the end? Start this test with these questions.
Our fuel consumption test method is the vehicle full of fuel state (based on the refueling machine jump gun) to travel 100 kilometers, the test route is from the Chengdu City Central Ring Road gas station, through the Third Ring Road, Shudu Avenue to Longquan Mountain, over the 318 National Highway Longquan Mountain section back to the city, and finally back to the starting gas station, and use the same oil gun to refuel again, until the jump gun so far the amount of fuel is the actual fuel consumption of this test.
In addition, it should be pointed out that Mondeo's EcoBoost turbo engine is able to use 92 gasoline, which is a saving in the current high fuel consumption.
Dynamic test drive
This new Mondeo does not play a virtual, the whole series of standard 2.0T Ecoboost high-power engine, with Ford's own 8AT automatic transmission, the official declaration of 100 km/h acceleration is 6.5 seconds.
After we actually drove this new Mondeo, I found out that Ford had deliberately tuned the powertrain to be "calm and a little sporty."
Say that it is calm, because the response of the initial stage of the throttle is at a normal level, and there is no aggressive performance, not as "frivolous" as the Japanese car, of course, the 2.0T itself makes the power have a better guarantee, even in the economic mode, the engine can have a good output after stepping on the throttle.
The embodiment of more movement requires switching to sport mode, and the engine is always kept in a higher speed range of more than 2500 rpm to ensure maximum torque support and high power output at any time. After fully outputting the peak torque of 376N·m, it is completely satisfying to want to be passionate.
Ford's self-developed 8AT gearbox performs equally well. Under the different working conditions of the city road, I carefully observed the gearbox shift logic, in the daily driving state, the gearbox upshift is active, the gear shift is gentle and smooth, and I do my best to smooth out all the gear shifts, which is obviously more considerate of comfort and fuel economy.
At the same time, if you switch to sport mode, the gearbox will not maintain a high gear on the one hand, and on the other hand, it will also have a jumping gear downshift action for the large throttle. Judging from this setting, the adjustment of the new Mondeo has both the performance output that young people like and the calmness that should be in line with the mid-to-high-end car.
In terms of handling, I think the new Mondeo has a clearer setting than the previous model - it must have a stable and stable high-speed driving feeling unique to Ford models, and it must be able to meet the requirements of Chinese consumers for comfortable driving, especially the comfort of rear passengers.
First of all, the grip of the steering wheel is very good, the filling of soft materials and ergonomic design are in place, and the second is that the steering feel brought by the entire steering wheel is good, and the direction of the front of the car is also good, so that people can accurately feel the body posture.
Of course, in different driving modes, the steering wheel damping will have some changes, the comfort mode will be more gentle, and the sport mode will be more compact, so it can bring a better control experience, it is not difficult for girls to get started, and boys are driving vigorously, which is probably the family car scene that Mondeo most wants to cover.
The new Mondeo's ability to build confidence in handling is also due to Ford's strong chassis tuning skills. The new Mondeo inherits all the chassis advantages of the previous Mondeo car series – solid, holistic and well-filtered – while making some changes based on factors such as the current body height, softening the bad and bumpy roads stronger.
We conducted a comprehensive test drive on the mountain road of Longquan Mountain, the design of the front McPherson back four connecting rods, the chassis was so solid that when passing some ditches and bumps, the entire body was very stable and rolled over, there was no obvious lateral swing, and the vibration was more thoroughly absorbed by the suspension. In layman's terms, people sit inside without shaking or being uncomfortable.
It gives me strong support when I think about a little passion, the tilt is suppressed quite well when cornering quickly, and I can establish a good sense of communication through the steering wheel and the vehicle. It can be said that the new Mondeo has made a more comprehensive balance between comfort and exercise.
Simply put, the family sits comfortably in the car, and the driver can have a certain driving pleasure, which is also a line of thinking that Ford has been adhering to in various models in recent years. This is the mid-to-high-end car that truly belongs to the post-80s family consumers want to take care of.
Of course, a topic that cannot be avoided at the level of middle and high-end cars is: How is NVH doing?
In terms of sensory experience, whether it is idling or driving, the engine noise of the new Mondeo is relatively small, and because of the use of good tires, coupled with the relatively small wind noise, the intuitive feeling is that the cabin of the new Mondeo is quiet.
We also conducted noise tests on the new Mondeo under four operating conditions (60, 80, 100, 120km/h), and the vehicle's noise control capabilities were further verified. In particular, under the two working conditions of 60km/h and 80km/h, it is better than most of the B-class cars of the same class, while the two working conditions of 100km/h and 120km/h are at the same level as most B-class cars.
So I still want to nag two more words: now a lot of friends who buy mid-to-high-end cars are either just married or on the way to marriage, so don't just take care of yourself, it is also important to take care of your family's feelings, and at this point, this new Mondeo can do both.
The final fuel consumption test results, our trip to the urban roads about 30%, suburban roads 40%, mountain roads accounted for 30%, such a hundred kilometers of comprehensive conditions down, fuel consumption data is really a bit surprising. I concluded because the engine and the gearbox work closely together, and I can feel that the gearbox adjusts the gear in time according to different working conditions, and makes the energy consumption as precise as possible. Static experience
In fact, the biggest change in this new Mondeo is the exterior interior design, and we took a moment to talk about whether its design is worth our attention.
In terms of appearance, the most intuitive is that the new Mondeo adopts a stylish two-color roof design, which was previously more used in SUVs, and so far there are still a few cars that use this practice. The second is that the front of the car is very sharp, especially this octagonal net, in the middle is a breathing kinetic energy scale armor net, plus a very good-looking split headlights, very imposing. In addition, there are two details that I personally really like, the hollow five wheels plus red brake calipers, and the shape of this rear side, which has a somewhat hatchback feel.
Then, the new Mondeo interior design really upended my understanding of fuel vehicles. This set of design is simple and clear, the physical button should be canceled, even the air conditioning control area is not spared, a large number of functions are integrated in this screen, there is a feeling of sitting in a new energy vehicle.
Specific to this Dalian screen, the left instrument screen UI interface is brilliantly designed and the vehicle information is rich; the right piece is a large long screen of 1.1m, which should also integrate the functions in the joint venture model. Some people are worried that the driver is not good at operating this screen, and as I demonstrated to everyone in the video, the farthest function can quickly "slide" in front of the driver, and the convenience of operation is actually very good.
In addition, it is worth mentioning that the new Mondeo front storage space has been significantly improved compared to the previous generation model, and the armrest box, storage compartment and so on are more abundant. I personally like the hollow design under the center console, which is not completely partitioned and gives the main and co-drivers a little sense of communication, while there is also a certain storage space.
As for the space, it is not a problem, a picture can see the 200,000 yuan ceiling-level rear space brought by the 2945mm wheelbase of Mondeo.

After my careful analysis of the Mondeo's configuration, I personally highly recommend this Supreme model that we test drive. Why?
The reason is that as the second top model of the whole series, the Supreme Edition has been equipped with pull-ups, and you will find that the main co-driver's electric seat, multi-function steering wheel, knob shift, mobile phone wireless charging, seat ventilation/heating and so on have functions. Compared with the top ST-Line, there are only a few less sports appearance kits, seat ventilation and heating, AR real-life navigation, etc., but the price of the Supreme Edition directly enters within 200,000.
We can compare the Japanese 2.0G deluxe version at the same price with a German 280TSI leading type, leaving aside the power system, the interior configuration alone, whether it is the active safety configuration, or the mobile phone wireless charging, power memory seat, B&O audio, atmosphere lights and other comfortable luxury configurations, the new Mondeo Supreme Edition has obvious advantages.
Compared with the low-end models, in addition to the previously mentioned configuration advantages, there are practical functions such as L2 level assisted driving, which is important for consumers who need to drive long distances.
Looking at the joint venture high-end car market, many joint venture high-end cars within 200,000 are still stuck in the 1.5T or even 2.0L power configuration, the new Mondeo took the lead in achieving the popularization of the whole series of 2.0T, and the comfort configuration has certain advantages over the same price model, such a new Mondeo What do you think?
