"Laoshan Daoist" is the famous passage of "Liaozhai Zhi Liaoyi", which was transmitted abroad very early and was interpreted into many languages. Later, it was adapted into film and television works and became a well-known story. I've seen that film adaptation.

The story itself, we can consider from three levels:

The first level is the wonderful mythological color displayed at the Laoshan Daoist. He cut the paper into a circle and it could turn into a bright moon. If he throws the chopsticks out, he can turn into a dancing Chang'e. His jug has an inexhaustible supply of fine wine, and he can make people enter through the wall with a single recitation. This level reflects people's yearning for the Immortal Realm for thousands of years, which is more felt by general readers, especially children who are prone to fantasies. This level is a must, and in fact it is very well written, but it is not the main point of this article.

The second level is the thinking that arises from following the Taoist technique: How did the Daoist get such a means? The answer is clear: he couldn't have done this in the first place. It took him a long and arduous period of cultivation to reach such a realm! It is precisely for this reason that his disciples are still practicing seriously and painstakingly as they did in those days. Otherwise, no one would have learned this from him. This level is implicit and reserved for people who are good at thinking.

The third level is that some people are in a hurry to make quick gains, want to take shortcuts, throw and strike cleverly, not only want to obtain strange Daoist techniques, but also do not want to go through arduous study and cultivation. This is reflected in the fact that Wang Sheng had just followed his brother to collect firewood, and he couldn't stand it for only a month and wanted to leave here. Seeing that the Daoist priest was so high in Daoist skills, he stayed behind, but after barely holding out for a month, he still didn't want to suffer hardships, so he proposed to leave the mountain and proposed to learn the art of piercing the wall with the Daoist. Using the technique of piercing the wall, passing a small test at the Taoist priest, he thought that he was not up to him, and when he returned home, he gave his wife a little ability, but he touched a knot and was laughed at. This level is the direct embodiment of the meaning of the story. In fact, everything is the same, only solid study and training can achieve tangible results, and it is difficult to have great achievements in a hurry.

Liaozhai makes good use of the method of foil, and the object of the author's positive narration is not necessarily the most important character in the work. This article is also, although it is titled "Laoshan Daoist", but the focus is all on Wang Sheng.

Speaking of which, it is generally considered to be in place, but it is not. In addition to the story, Pu Songling added another discussion. Through these arguments, the author touches on deeper issues. Writing this question is probably pu Songling's real intention in writing this story. This is the fourth level of this Laoshan Daoist.

The fourth level is to criticize the bad phenomena of the period in which you live. Point out that those who like to be sick and jealous of the lewd people, there are flattering people to help him come up with bad ideas, this bad idea may be able to work a small test, but they think that they can pass the world, just like this Wang Sheng who learned the art of wall-piercing with Taoists, he will definitely hit the wall again and again. This matter, from a methodological point of view, cannot be generalized and treated as a common law of individual experience. In terms of the alleged substance, it is rebuking those who "declare their power and violence", so the meaning of this text is unfathomable. Perhaps this is politically rebuked and culturally despised by those fierce forces?

Literary works can be artistically processed or recreated. However, the re-creation of posterity, some have changed well, and some have not changed very well. The film and television work "Laoshan Daoist" added the plot of the wall-piercing technique that Wang Sheng borrowed from the Taoist priest after returning home, which may appear to be a thicker story in the perspective of the screenwriter's consideration, and there is his reason. However, from the perspective that Pu Songling wants to express, it is far from the original theme.

Reading two or three months this year, I did not return early and twilight. The disciple was at home and did not understand this suffering. The Daoist priest laughed and said, "I can't be bitter, but now I am sure." Tomorrow morning, send ru xing. Wang Yue: "The disciple has been operating for many days, and the master has taught a little skill, so he has come to live up to it." The Taoist priest asked, "What is the request?" Wang Yue: "Every time you see a teacher, the walls cannot be separated, but this method is enough." The Taoist priest laughed and agreed. It is a trick to make the self-curse finish, and shouts, "Enter it!" "The king did not dare to enter the wall. Another: "Try to enter it." Wang Guo calmly entered, and the wall blocked. The Taoist priest said, "Bow down and enter, don't patrol!" Wang Guo went to the wall and ran in a few steps, and the wall, empty, looked back, and the fruit was outside the wall. Great joy, thanks. The Taoist priest said, "It is advisable to keep it clean, otherwise it will not be tested." "So the helper axe was returned." Arriving at home, self-proclaimed immortality, the wall can not be stopped, the wife does not believe. Wang followed suit, went to the wall for a few feet, and ran in; his head touched the hard wall, and he stumbled. The wife looked at it, and the grave on her forehead was like a giant egg. The wife teases him. The king grew angry and scolded the old Daoist for his unscrupulousness.
