Xu Zijun was born in 1963 in Kunming, Yunnan.
In 1977, China resumed the college entrance examination. Xu Zijun, who was only 15 years old at the time, attended high school at Kunming No. 7 Middle School.
"It was the most ordinary high school in Kunming at that time, and I had poor grades and wanted to go to college."
That year, the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts came to Kunming to enroll, and more than 2,600 people in Kunming signed up, and Chuanmei only recruited six people.
Xu Zijun's parents both worked at the provincial museum, her mother did archaeological drawings, and the neighbors upstairs and downstairs were all kinds of art teachers. Xu Zijun was affected by the environment of growing up, so he thought of applying for chuanmei, so he began to learn painting with a neighbor art teacher 3 months before the college entrance examination.
That year, 15-year-old Xu Zijun scored the highest score in professional creation, becoming the youngest undergraduate student admitted to Chuanmei.
The eldest of Chuan Meili's classmates was ten years older than Xu Zijun. So the "little cub" in Sichuan dialect became his nickname in Chuanmei.
