The Late Tang Dynasty Sikong Tu wrote "Twenty-Four Poems", which uses the twenty-four categories of majestic, diluted, delicate, composed, high ancient, elegant, refined, vigorous, beautiful, natural, subtle, bold, spiritual, meticulous, sparse, qingqi, weiqu, reality, sadness, description, transcendence, elegance, openness, and flowing twenty-four categories of poetry, and uses four poems to figuratively depict their different orientations and realms. After the advent of "Poetry", its influence was not limited to the field of poetry, but was widely recognized, and gradually became one of the original classics of the entire Chinese art aesthetics. From the perspective of "Poetry", Chen Xiaorong's paintings may be diluted.

Chen Xiaorong is good at watercolor. Discussing art with the medium as the standard is easy to fall into the quagmire of self-contained modernism. But the medium is, as Marshall Mcluhan put it, "the medium is the message," which is itself a content that expresses a certain meaning. Chen Xiaorong's recent works mainly depict old mansions in Sichuan, Jiangxi, Anhui and other places. The "old" of the old mansion is easy to cause people to think of the humor of the past or the sigh of vicissitudes. But what Chen Xiaorong's picture conveys is another situation: dilution.

Dilution, Sikong tu interpreted it as "drinking too much harmony, the crane and flying; judas of the hui wind, the grass in the clothes", flushing but not thin, light and flavorful, is the realm of flushing and indifference and beauty. Chen Xiaorong makes full use of the transparency of the watercolor medium to depict scenes in a written brushwork that seems to be beyond the flow of time: although the sun is shining or the light and shadow are dappled, these old buildings and villages have a kind of tranquility and tranquility that is not disturbed by time. The sparse distance of these scenes is largely related to chen Xiaorong's large-scale application of purple-blue gray, green-blue-gray and brush strokes that are close to ink painting, forming a form and aesthetic isomorphism.

Under the current situation of rapid development, surging trends and changes in the art of painting, there are not many painters who adhere to their own artistic paths, frankly express their true psychological demands, and paint calmly, and Chen Xiaorong is a calm watercolor painter.

The "Old Mansion Scene" series shows the old mansions in the ancient town on the banks of the Yangtze River. In the traditional architectural mode, the beams and cornices are varied, and the wall bricks and tiles still have a charm. The picture No. 1 depicts a beam and rafter that records the architectural structure of the house in detail and accurately, there is no such thing as the same window frame format showing the traces of life left by different ages, and the light blue-gray tone reveals a faint nostalgia; the picture of work No. 3 only has an old wall, which stands here in the era that has witnessed how many things are not human, this wall is depicted every brick and tile, stubborn and strong; and the uniquely decorated doors and windows in the work No. 9 record the owner's pursuit of alternative architectural styles at that time. Decades later, it is still slightly fashionable.

The second group of paintings about the rural landscapes of Sichuan and Jiangxi, the black tiles and white walls of tall Huipai buildings and the brownwood white ash houses with Sichuan characteristics, all decorated with green plants with mottled colors under the painter's pen, not only show the antiquity of the village but also give the picture freshness and vitality, and the light and loose tone of the painting plants is full of interest. The work conveys a very simple love for the cottages of the hometown landscape, forests, trees, towns, and villages, and a sense of attachment to the ancient civilization that is about to pass away. These highly realistic works give a deep impression, it is not only a work of art, but also a record of history. Painting such a landscape requires the author's emotional investment, patience and diligence in painting attitude and skillful watercolor expression techniques. Chen Xiaorong's paintings are realistic, but the techniques of expression are flexible and changeable, showing his ability to learn traditions and his achievements in continuous exploration.

Chen Xiaorong graduated from the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in 1997, and I should have been his head of the department at that time, because I did not directly teach classes, so I did not have much impression of him. Later, when I saw his works at watercolor exhibitions in Chongqing and the whole country, I remembered that there was such a diligent and simple student in those years. When Chen Xiaorong was in school, we did not open a watercolor painting major, but there was a watercolor painting course in the basic color training of the first grade, the time was very short, teaching some basic knowledge of watercolor painting and doing the most basic technique practice, many students gave up the study of watercolor painting after entering the senior professional study. However, Chen Xiaorong has silently insisted on painting watercolor painting and adhering to his ideal pursuit. Presented to us now is an art teacher from a college, who is the author who has never been absent and the painter who has won the most awards at every watercolor exhibition in Chongqing, and is also one of the Chongqing painters who are often active in the national watercolor exhibition.
