College life under the epidemic: the romance of singing "The Sun Never Sets" in the playground

People's Daily health client reporter Xu Shiyu

"Students set up stalls, run, dance, hold small concerts on the playground, watch "The Biography of Zhen Huan" in the playground at night, sell their own handicrafts and cultivated flowers, and collectively hold up their mobile phones to sing 'The Sun Never Sets', which is our own romance." Affected by the epidemic, many universities have advocated "not leaving school unless necessary". The epidemic has changed the originally free university life, but many universities still strive to provide students with a better campus environment, and students are also actively looking for more on-campus activities to grasp youth and feel life in addition to learning.

University students from Chongqing, Xiamen, Chengdu and Wuhan told the People's Daily health client reporter about their university life, and the following is their self-description:

Xiaoyun of Chongqing Normal University: The school opened a "fishing day", and we caught more than a dozen wild crucian carp

At the end of March, the school was afraid that we would be bored and opened up for a day of "fishing day". It was a Saturday, and the weather was particularly nice, and for the first time I saw so many of my peers fishing around Sanchun Lake. A friend caught a dozen fish with a homemade fishing rod, all of which were wild crucian carp. The school bought four black swans to put in Sanchun Lake, and every day when I passed, I would take a look. Recently, the school also built a small house for them by the lake, and they finally have their own "little home".

Jimei University Xiaoxin: The lights of the playground night market are like stars falling on the lawn

Every day when we go for a walk in the playground, my roommates and I will go to the "night market". Many students set up their own stalls on the lawn, selling handmade DIY, ice powder, rock sugar gourd, mochi, hand-beaten lemon tea... It is a "snack street" on campus. Small tables or tablecloths were lit with stars, which, from a distance, looked like a patch of stars scattered on the lawn. Through the small market, I also met some new friends, recorded their stories, and witnessed everyone harvest friendship and love here.

Mai Mai of Sichuan Normal University: We watched "The Biography of Zhen Huan" in the playground and sang "The Sun Never Sets"

"I'm going to send you a thought that never sets, and send you a postcard representing love." I will never forget that we sang "The Sun Never Sets" on the playground, and everyone held up their mobile phones and turned on their flashlights, like in the scene of a music festival, the atmosphere was particularly good. When the temperature warms up, the playground is buzzing. There are bands singing, some students set up stalls to sell hand punches, and some students drink milk tea to watch "The Biography of Zhen Huan". Closing school is a very helpless thing, but we can create happiness, create expectations, and be free in our short youth.

Xuan Xuan, Central China Normal University: Dancing square dances and listening to concerts together is our poetic life

There were lawn concerts on the playground, and the teacher also took us to square dancing. After the closure of the school due to the epidemic, there were more students walking, listening to songs and dancing on the playground. Although it is difficult to reach from afar, the students are doing their best to live a life as wonderful as poetry. On the day of the concert, we sat around the drummers, guitarists, and bassists and sang together. Although it is not the same as the "time we should have spent" as we envisioned, life can be full of surprises based on the present. But I'm looking forward to the day when we'll get rid of the pandemic once and for all, when we'll no longer have to maintain social distancing and live a normal life full of fireworks.
