Guo Yizu, a famous painter, art educator and art activist, was born in 1940 in Weifang, Shandong Province, into a family of calligraphers and painters, and the third son of Mr. Guo Weiruo, a master of contemporary Chinese painting. In 1959, he entered the Fine Arts Department of the Beijing Academy of Arts, where he first studied Western painting and later specialized in Chinese flower and bird painting. Since 1978, he has been teaching in the Chinese Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and strives to create new ideas on the basis of inheriting traditions, focusing on the expression of natural beauty in life.

As early as more than 20 years ago, Guo Yizu clearly and boldly put forward the concept of "big flowers and birds" from a comprehensive understanding of tradition and the needs of the times, calling on flower and bird painters to go to the endless nature.

His creative purpose and aesthetic taste is to "express the original life state of nature and the strong resilience of nature to life as his own creative mission", and the flowers and birds expressed are not in the small love of flowers and leaves, but in the natural scenes of the weather and the purple and red, capturing the beauty that others have not recognized and discovered. Therefore, the mountain flowers and wild flowers that were originally obscured by cultural choices entered his sight, and those life forms that had never been seen before became the protagonists of his works.
