Due to the risk of power loss of control, Tesla recalled another 120,000 "problem cars"

A few days ago, from the website of the State Administration for Market Regulation, it was seen that from April 7, 2022, Tesla will recall some imported and domestically produced Model3s produced from January 11, 2019 to January 25, 2022, with a total of 127785 vehicles.

Due to the risk of power loss of control, Tesla recalled another 120,000 "problem cars"

It is understood that the main reason for the recall is that there may be small manufacturing differences in the power semiconductor components of the rear motor inverter of the vehicle, which will cause the inverter of some vehicles to fail.

This failure can cause the vehicle to fail to start if it occurs in a parked state, or lose power when the vehicle is in a driving state, and in extreme cases may increase the risk of a collision between the vehicles.

In this regard, Tesla will upgrade the motor control software for the vehicles within the scope of the recall through the car remote upgrade (OTA) technology free of charge; for the vehicles that cannot be recalled through the car remote upgrade (OTA) technology, the relevant users will be contacted through the service center to upgrade the motor control software for the vehicle to closely monitor the rear motor inverter of the vehicle, and timely replace the rear inverter with related failures for free to eliminate safety hazards.

From the perspective of solution, although the number of this recall exceeds 120,000 vehicles, most of the vehicles may only need to be solved through remote OTA.

It is worth mentioning that this is already Tesla's second recall this year. In February this year, Tesla recalled a total of 20,000 Model 3 and Model Y due to problems with the positioning of the electronic expansion valve of the heat pump, which caused the heat pump compressor to stop working, and eventually led to the failure of the heating function in the car.

Of course, compared with Tesla, in fact, some domestic new energy models also have a very serious "EV restriction" problem and have been repeatedly complained about.

Once there is an "EV limited" fault, similarly, when parked, it will cause the vehicle to fail to start; if it occurs in the driving state of the vehicle, it will cause the vehicle to lose power, and in extreme cases, it may increase the risk of collision of the vehicle.

In contrast to Tesla, it has not yet been seen to announce the cause of the problem and initiate a recall process.
