Yes, that's right, Tesla is in trouble again.
Just this afternoon, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulations in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Measures for the Implementation of the Regulations on the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products. #汽车科技要闻 #
Let's take a look at the official announcement first:
As of April 7, 2022, the recall will recall a total of 127785 imported and domestically produced Model 3 electric vehicles with production dates from January 11, 2019 to January 25, 2022 (including 34,207 imported Model 3 vehicles and 93,578 domestic Model 3 vehicles).
There may be minor manufacturing differences in the rear motor inverter power semiconductor components of vehicles within the scope of this recall, and the component manufacturing differences after some vehicles have been used for a period of time may cause the rear inverter to fail, resulting in the inverter not being able to control the current normally.

This failure occurs when the vehicle is in a parked state, which will cause the vehicle to fail to start; this failure occurs when the vehicle is in a driving state, which will cause the vehicle to lose driving power, and in extreme cases, it may increase the risk of collision of the vehicle, and there is a safety hazard.
Friends, there are more than 120,000 vehicles, what concept? According to the data of the Association of Passenger Vehicles, tesla model3 sold 150,890 units in the whole year of 2021, indicating that a large number of car owners are likely to encounter the situation that the vehicle cannot start and stall during driving.

And not long ago, a car owner encountered this situation...
On April 6, some Model 3 riders broke the news that they were driving on the highway and encountered a thrilling scene where the vehicle suddenly lost power.
According to the owner's own statement, the car is mentioned on New Year's Day this year, usually in the process of using the car, there will be a current sound on the car for no reason, after locking the car, it will run, the car will make a rumbling sound, reopen the door and close it again, there will be no, usually think these are small problems, they do not care.
When the loss of speed occurs, the owner is driving normally in the tunnel at a speed of more than 100 yards, and suddenly the vehicle begins to stall without warning, and the machine screen displays the words "The vehicle cannot continue to drive, please stop immediately".
Since the rear bus followed, the owner chose to continue to step on the electric door and try to accelerate to the side, but the car still did not respond.
According to the owner's self-report, he reacted for 0.5 seconds, turned on the double flash, and changed two lanes in a row with the last speed before stopping in the emergency lane, at which time the vehicle had completely lost power, and the body was only halfway in.
After parking the vehicle, he immediately contacted Tesla's sales and some staff, but told him that he had not encountered such a situation, and suggested that he connect to the after-sales service, and the after-sales said that there was no solution, and asked the man to call the trailer.
At present, according to the owner's own revelations, Tesla officials have determined that this car is one of the 120,000 defective vehicles. From the car circle, it can also be seen that the owner is still negotiating with Tesla officials on the amount of return.
So due to the failure of the inverter and the loss of control of the vehicle, then what role does the inverter play in the car?
First, let's talk about the culprit of the whole thing, the power motor inverter.
First of all, we must know that the power motor used by today's new energy electric vehicles is not the same thing as the four-wheel drive motor we played when we were children.
AC motor working principle ▲
New energy power motor voltage is high and powerful, in order to have higher efficiency and longer service life, it is natural to use ac motors that do not require brushes.
Then at this time, if you want to make the motor rotate, you need the high-voltage direct current in the battery of the power motor inverter to convert it into the alternating current required by the power motor.
Three-in-one electric drive system▲
In fact, the problem of the inverter has long been discovered by car owners.
In January last year, a car owner who had just bought a Model 3 for only 6 days said that after charging at tesla's supercharge station, the whole car was cut off and could not start. To this end, Tesla staff said: The reason is that the current of the national grid is too large, causing the inverter to burn out, and there is no problem with the vehicle itself.
In this regard, the State Grid Nanchang Power Supply Company official Bo retorted: the voltage at the time of the incident was normal, in line with national regulations, it is recommended that Tesla carefully find the reason for the vehicle.
The next day, Tesla apologized: The after-sales staff mentioned multiple possibilities when explaining the current overload. The part of the state grid was intercepted and scattered, causing a misunderstanding, and apologized for this. And let an after-sales employee record a video explanation.
Coincidentally, in January 2021, Mr. Cao of Xingtai, Hebei Province, drove his newly purchased Model 3 just into the underground garage, and suddenly the whole car crashed, as if a foot on the brake suffocated, but at that time his foot was on the acceleration pedal. The post-inspection is the inverter failure, which is the same as the problem encountered by the owner of the Nanchang car.
Despite Tesla's after-sales rush to respond: This situation is very rare. But since last year, similar cases in Beijing, Xingtai, Nanchang, and many parts of the country have gathered more and more.
Today's recall has also verified that the Model 3 inverter does have some problems, posing a safety hazard, and the paper cannot cover the fire after all.
Of course, it is a good thing to initiate a recall, but Tesla has dismantled the recall into two parts: if there is a problem, directly replace the new inverter, and if there is no problem, the OTA's new motor control software continuously monitors the inverter.
So the question is, if someone replaces it in the later stage, and someone does not replace it, is it easy to cause some car owners to be dissatisfied? Returning to this approach itself should be fine. Quite simply, if the regulator disagrees with this plan, we will not see the announcement.
This recall can actually be used as a more flexible treatment method for OTAs to give car companies, in other words, OTAs have been in the automotive industry for ten years, and there are no detailed rules to follow in supervision, which also shows the long cycle of the automotive industry.
Therefore, according to the current recall battle, it is not a good thing for consumers.
