On April 7, Tesla announced that it would recall more than 120,000 Model 3s due to the hidden dangers of failure.
It is reported that the recall was carried out under the circumstance that the State Administration for Market Regulation launched a defect investigation. Affected by the investigation, Tesla decided to take recall measures to eliminate safety hazards.
Recalled more than 120,000 Model 3s
According to the website of the State Administration for Market Regulation, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. recently filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulations in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Measures for the Implementation of the Regulations on the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products.
As of April 7, 2022, the recall will recall a total of 127785 imported and domestically produced Model 3 electric vehicles with production dates from January 11, 2019 to January 25, 2022 (including 34,207 imported Model 3 vehicles and 93,578 domestic Model 3 vehicles).
It is reported that the recall was carried out under the circumstance that the State Administration for Market Regulation launched a defect investigation. Affected by the investigation, Tesla Motors (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. decided to take recall measures to eliminate potential safety hazards.
There may be minor manufacturing differences in the rear motor inverter power semiconductor components of vehicles within the scope of the recall, and the difference in component manufacturing after some vehicles have been used for a period of time may cause the rear inverter to fail, resulting in the inverter not being able to control the current normally. This failure occurs when the vehicle is in a parked state, which will cause the vehicle to fail to start; this failure occurs when the vehicle is in a driving state, which will cause the vehicle to lose driving power, and in extreme cases, it may increase the risk of collision of the vehicle, and there is a safety hazard.

In this regard, Tesla said that it will upgrade the motor control software for the vehicles within the scope of the recall through the vehicle remote upgrade (OTA) technology; for vehicles that cannot be recalled through the car remote upgrade (OTA) technology, the relevant users will be contacted through the service center to upgrade the motor control software for the vehicle, so as to closely monitor the rear motor inverter of the vehicle, and timely replace the rear inverter with related failures for free to eliminate safety hazards.
More than 20,000 electric vehicles were recalled in February
Notably, this is Tesla's second recall of electric vehicles since 2022.
On February 18 this year, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulations in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Implementation Measures for the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products. Announced recall of some of the domestically produced Model 3 (12,003 units) and Model Y (14,044 units) electric vehicles manufactured between December 28, 2020 and January 15, 2022, for a total of 26,047 units.
It is reported that the reason for the recall is that the heat pump electronic expansion valve of some vehicles will have slight movement when positioning, because the software (2021.44 to 2021.44.30.6 version) has no correction function, which may cause the valve to be partially opened in the long run, the heat pump compressor to stop working, and the heating function in the car to fail. In the above state, especially when the temperature outside the car is lower than minus 10 degrees Celsius, the windshield defrosting system cannot achieve the defrosting effect stipulated by the relevant national laws and regulations, and the decline of the defrosting function adversely affects the driver's vision, thereby increasing the possibility of collision risk of the vehicle when driving in cold weather, and there is a safety hazard.
In this regard, Tesla said that it will upgrade the software for the vehicles within the scope of the recall through the car remote upgrade (OTA) technology, and the user can complete the recall without going to the store; for the vehicle that cannot be recalled through the car remote upgrade (OTA) technology, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will contact the relevant users through the Tesla service center to upgrade the software for the vehicle for free to eliminate safety hazards.
Sales first, controversy abounds
Tesla's financial report data shows that tesla achieved total revenue of $53.7 billion in 2021, an increase of 71% year-on-year; achieved a net profit of $5.519 billion, an increase of 665% year-on-year. In terms of deliveries, in the fourth quarter of 2021, Tesla delivered a total of 308,600 electric vehicles, and a total of 936,000 vehicles were delivered in the whole year, an increase of 87% compared with 2020, while ranking first in the pure electric market.
Since the beginning of this year, Tesla has once again set a new delivery record.
According to tesla's first quarter report data, Tesla's global production exceeded 305,000 units in the first quarter of 2022; global deliveries in the first quarter exceeded 310,000 units, an increase of 68% year-on-year.
Musk has also publicly stated that Tesla is confident of maintaining a delivery growth rate of more than 50% per year. It is expected to achieve annual deliveries of 20 million units in 2030.
