Maybach×Virgil Abloh | Maybach S-Class Ultimate Limited Edition released

Today, Mr. Virgil Abloh is mentioned again because the Limited Edition and Capsule Collection of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, inspired by Project MAYBACH, has been officially released in honor of the late designer Virgil Abloh. The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is also the ultimate chapter in the Project MAYBACH project, which will be sold in a limited edition of 150 units worldwide.

Project MAYBACH dates back to 2020, and mercedes-Benz celebrated the fortieth anniversary of its G-Class by inviting Virgil Abloh to work with Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, to complete the design of the Gel ndewagen art concept car. At that time, it received a lot of praise after passing through the world tour. I believe everyone has the impression that this Gel ndewagen was also exhibited in Beijing's Parkview Meadows last November.

In 2021, Virgil Abloh and Wagner continued to work together to design the Limited Edition of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. Before the tragic death of Virgil Abloh in November of the same year, the car was already in production. In addition to the limited edition models, inspired by the Project MAYBACH concept car (the second collaborative project), the capsule collection designed by Virgil Abloh and co-launched by Off-White is also available at the same time, and is exclusively available in Off-White, fashion shopping platform Farfetch, the Maybach "Icons of Luxury" online mall and the Off-White offline physical store in selected markets.

Designed by Virgil Abloh, this limited edition model is based on the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 4MATIC and is fully equipped with luxury. Created by manufaktur, a mercedes-Benz professional customization and craftsmanship team in Sindelfingen, it features a unique two-tone combination designed specifically for the Project MAYBACH concept car, with obsidian black high-gloss paint poured into the upper body and windstone sand paint on the lower parts, sides and exclusive forged wheels.

Inside, we can see four separate seats, steering wheel, doors, lower dashboard and roof lining all wrapped in black and sand two-tone Nappa leather, while sand trims and trims outline the design. The black plush foot pads are trimmed with sand leather and engraved with the Mercedes-Maybach logo. To further enhance the distinctive exterior design, the window frames were also painted, along with the chic Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logos on the black piano lacquered centre console, rear seat cushions, headrests and door welcome pedals.

It is worth mentioning that all owners of this limited edition model will also receive a specially customized wooden gift box. The gift box is wrapped in sand-coloured Nappa leather and embellished with the Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logos. The gift box contains the limited edition 1:18 replica car model, two car keys and a carabiner. In addition, owners will receive a bespoke garment with the logos of Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh.

The new car is still equipped with a 6.0T twin-turbo V12 engine with a maximum power of 630 hp and a maximum torque of 1,000 Nm. In terms of drivetrain, the new car will be matched with a 9-speed manual transmission and equipped with a 4MATIC four-wheel drive system, and zero hundred acceleration can be completed in only 4.5 seconds.

Wagner said: "I am extremely proud of the results of our collaboration with Mr. Virgil Abloh. Starting with Project Gel ndewagen, we set the standard for fashion and automotive by reinventing the iconic G-Class SUV, and then Project Maybach has joined forces to bring mercedes-Maybach's legacy into future designs, and together we have ushered in and witnessed a truly new era. The Limited Edition of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, designed by Mr. Virgil Abloh, exemplifies the perfect blend of innovative design and top-of-the-line craftsmanship. ”

Previously, Mercedes-Benz officials had said: "We are deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of Mr. Virgil Abloh and have expressed our most sincere condolences to his family and team. By showing the public the fruits of our collaboration and Mr. Virgil Abloh's unique perspective, we pay tribute to this talented designer with a unique style. His majestic imagination has opened up endless possibilities for our collaborations and inspired those who understand his work. ”

The pace of the fashion industry has never stopped, but Virgil Abloh's life has forever stayed in this era. His "3% statement: only 3% change of the entire product" has also been questioned in designer circles, but it is undeniable that Virgil Abloh not only changed the clothes consumers wanted, but also connected street culture with the world of luxury goods. The ultimate chapter of Project MAYBACH is also the best carrier of Mercedes-Maybach's tribute to Virgil Abloh, hoping to pass on the virgil Abloh spirit forever through the limited edition of these 150 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class sedans.
