As one of the four famous works of ancient China, "Dream of the Red Chamber" is the crystallization of the wisdom of the ancients and a rare cultural treasure they left us. "Dream of the Red Chamber" tells the story of the rise and fall of Jia Fu, and is the entanglement of Jia Baoyu and a group of women.
In the whole story of "Dream of the Red Chamber", the interaction between Lin Daiyu and Jia Baoyu is the focus of people's attention, they are people who are in love, but they are helpless and impermanent, and in the end there is no happy ending.
Interestingly, although Lin Daiyu likes Jia Baoyu, she also knows his shortcomings and once scolded Jia Baoyu as a "silver pewter gun head". So the question is, what exactly does this sentence mean? Does it make sense?
Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu were the more people with their own ideas in that era, they were not bound by feudal society, bravely expressed their love, and even once read "The Tale of the West Chamber" together. In this process, Jia Baoyu compared himself and Lin Daiyu to talented women, making Lin Daiyu not very accustomed to it, and even wanted to go to Jia Zheng to sue him, making Jia Baoyu chaotic.
Jia Zheng had pinned his hopes on Jia Baoyu, so his education was more harsh, and if he knew that Jia Baoyu was not good at reading serious books and secretly reading absurd novels, he would definitely punish Jia Baoyu. Therefore, Jia Baoyu was very scared after listening to it, and swore to Lin Daiyu that in the past, Dai Yu had done a pin of old lady and died, and he would become a thousand-year-old turtle to ride her.
Lin Daiyu was originally a well-educated woman, and she was born in Shuxiang Mendi, so she soon knew that Jia Baoyu was making fun of her, so she quoted the "silver pewter gun head" in "The Tale of the West Chamber" to satirize Jia Baoyu.
It is detailed in the second fold of the fourth book in the Book of the Western Chamber: "You were originally 'Miao but not Xiu', Yu, a silver pewter gun head." The "silver pewter gun head" here is very well understood, referring to flashy, not useful in the middle, is a satire on Jia Baoyu to do things without responsibility, although the words are pointed, but it is just a paper paste tiger, without any real ability.
Lin Daiyu scolded Jia Baoyu so much, without swearing, but she was everywhere in her heart, reflecting her ability, but it was most likely to make people feel uncomfortable. But the interesting thing is that Jia Baoyu is not unhappy, but thinks that this is Lin Daiyu flirting with himself, so the relationship between the two is better.
Of course, from another point of view, perhaps Jia Baoyu felt the encouragement and concern of the other party from Lin Daiyu's words, and felt something in his heart, so he didn't care about these small things.
So, is it reasonable for Lin Daiyu to call Jia Baoyu a "silver pewter gun head"? In fact, there is, because Jia Baoyu met many girls when he visited Qingwen, and this person also thought that Jia Baoyukong had a good skin bag, but it was a cannonball with no myrrh, which was similar to what Lin Daiyu said.
And Jia Baoyu's personality, in fact, has a great relationship with his living environment, after all, he has lived a life without worrying about eating and wearing since he was a child, is a treasure in Jia Province, and is also the object of everyone's pursuit, he has not yet received the baptism of society, let alone felt the harm of the outside world, naturally there is no responsibility and responsibility. And such a person can indeed be regarded as a "silver pewter gun head".
