National museums do not understand traditional Chinese, the inscription is wrong, do you read it wrong?

As we all know, Shaanxi has a long history as an ancient capital, and it is full of cultural relics. In recent years, the Shaanxi Provincial Archaeological Research Institute has accumulated hundreds of thousands of pieces of cultural relics, so many archaeological achievements must have a place to show the people, so with the approval of the State Council, a state-level museum was built in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, the Shaanxi Archaeological Museum. Because it is a national museum, the word "province" is not included in the name.

It is understood that the Shaanxi Archaeological Museum started construction in September 2019, which took many years to finally complete, and recently opened with a grand opening. This is not the museum's inscription name has been made and displayed.

The inscription of the museum is written by Shi Xingbang, an archaeologist, the discoverer of the Banpo culture, and the director of the Shaanxi Archaeological Research Institute. The calligraphy inscription is a calligraphy, which has both the breadth of the Yan body and the thickness of the seal body, and the large golden characters are engraved on the huge stone stele, showing the author's profound calligraphy skills, which can be described as complementary.

However, sharp-eyed book friends found that the word "Shaanxi" in Shaanxi was written incorrectly in several large characters at the entrance of the Shaanxi Archaeological Museum.

In traditional Characters, Shaanxi's "陝" has two "into" characters, while the current signboard "陝" is written as "陝", which is two "ren" characters, pronounced "xia", the meaning of the word is the same as the narrow "narrow".

After consulting, the Jingwei Tang Master found that the word "Shaanxi" was indeed written wrongly, but it was not wrong here, but the mistake was in the simplification and mixing of vulgar words, and the written word was simply a word that did not exist.

The middle two sides of the word (shan) are "entering", which means "to hide things in your arms"; on both sides is "people", which is another word , "夾", meaning "blatantly holding people".

"Fu + " is "陝", simplified to "Shaanxi"; "Fu + 夾" is "陜" (xia).

"陝" (入) is a place name, a fief of the son of King Ji of the Ancient Yu Dynasty. The Zhou Dynasty was the land of the Duke of Zhou and zhao gong (Shaanxi), and the west of Shaanxi (Shaanxi) was returned to the zhao gong.

"陜" (人) is "mountain pass", which can be used as "Shaanxi".

According to the overall inscription, if you want to write the "Shaanxi" character into traditional characters, write "陝" (入) and "陜" (人), you can do it. As a result, it is written as a mixture of simplified "Shaanxi" (with the following horizontal) and "陜" (with people on both sides of the middle). 、

In addition to the difference in pronunciation and glyphs, the two words are also far from each other in meaning.

This can be explained from a philological point of view.

The names of cultural places in Shaanxi as a large cultural province mostly appear in calligraphy inscriptions, and the words "Shaanxi" in the calligraphy inscription are mostly written in traditional characters, coincidentally, because of the wrong writing of the traditional "Shaanxi" character, "Shen" (into) and "Well" entangled and more than one overturned.

Careful netizens found that Shaanxi University of Technology in Hanzhong City made the same mistake as early as 2013 and did not revise it until it was renamed after it was upgraded to a university in 2016.

Because of similar errors, the shaanxi normal university official once made a special explanation: "The name of our school uses Lu Xun style, and the "Shaanxi" character is written in the diary of Lu Xun when he came to Xi'an in 1924 to give a lecture, which is the original character of Lu Font. In addition, Professor Yu Gengzhe of our school has examined that the ancients wrote with variant characters, and the Shaanxi characters in the Song Dynasty rhyme are consistent with the school name."

However, for unknown reasons, shortly after Shaanxi Normal University's explanation caused controversy on the Internet, Shaanxi Normal University corrected the traditional name of the school to "陜(xiá)" to "陝(shǎn)".

▲Is the revised "陝" still lu xun's original character?

The same mistake was made by Shaanxi Art Vocational College, and the name of the school before and after the revision was obviously different:

Mistakes can improve greatly, and the behavior of these three schools as a place to teach and educate people deserves praise.

"陜(xiá)" and "陝(shǎn)" are two completely different words, because they look like twins, so people are silly and confused.

However, Chinese characters, as the precious heritage left by their ancestors, have a complete disciplinary heritage, how to write and how to read the characters, has a very rigorous side, and must not be messed with. Book lovers who have voted for calligraphy exhibitions may be well aware that both national and provincial exhibitions have an independent inspection link - text reading.

Simply put, your calligraphy work cannot have a single typo except for solid techniques and unique ideas. Including traditional and variant characters, there must be a source and a standardized usage. If the traditional writing is not standardized, and the variant writing has no provenance, even if the work is wonderful, it will be passed away by the judges.

In reality, such examples abound, and I will not list them all here.
