PowerToys can cause problems with Outlook PDF file previews

IT House March 24 news, according to Neowin reported that Microsoft recently released a new document on the official support website, warning Outlook pdf problems in various situations. The company explains the issues affecting Adobe Acrobat and PowerToys users and provides a workaround.

PowerToys can cause problems with Outlook PDF file previews

According to Microsoft, when a user tries to preview a PDF attachment in an email message, Outlook displays the following error:

"The file can't be previewed because there's no previewer installed for it."

Microsoft says two things triggered the error message: a mismatch in the number of bits in Outlook and Adobe Acrobat, and a PDF preview module in the PowerToys app. Users can resolve the first issue by ensuring that they are using 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Microsoft Outlook and Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Start Outlook and go to the file > Office Account > About Outlook. Check whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit.

Open the Adobe Acrobat Reader app and go to help > About Adobe Acrobat Reader. Again, check its schema, which should match the schema in Outlook. In other words, if the user is using 32-bit Outlook, Acrobat Reader should also be 32-bit (the 64-bit version also needs to be consistent).

If the numbers match or the user isn't using Adobe Acrobat, check your PowerToys settings. The file states that the PDF previewer in PowerToys is a troublemaker.

Open the PowerToys application and go to the File Explorer Add-ons section.

Locate the Enable PDF Preview module and close it.

Go back to Outlook and try to open a PDF file.

Microsoft says both approaches are workarounds, so users can expect developers to release the required fixes in the future. Earlier this month, Microsoft pushed a bug fix update for PowerToys that didn't provide new features.
