Keith Haring was an American street painter and social activist of the 1980s. His graffiti works are an important part of the world's art trove. His work has a strong pop art style, and his earliest work was created in 1980, when he noticed the presence of a large number of unused advertising blackboards in the stations of the New York City Subway, and began drawing here in white chalk.
He created cartoon images such as monochromatic, hollow abstract villains, roaring dogs, glowing babies, etc., which became the starting point of Harlem's public art, and later he devoted most of his time to public art creation, which often carried social messages. Between 1982 and 1989, he created more than 50 public works of art in dozens of cities around the world, many of which were created for charities, hospitals, kindergartens and orphanages. Haring's name is so closely associated with the city of New York that the images he creates become New York's cultural calling card.

New York is my canvas
New York is my canvas
Restore the New York subway space and subtly place the exhibits in it. He became famous for his subway graffiti, so we blended the carriage space perfectly with his exhibits and recreated the scene.
After arriving in New York to study, Keith Haring turned his attention to the streets and subway walls of New York, and he enjoyed the audience watching him create the subway. He believes that interaction with the audience is the greatest value of art.
Haring's goal is to break down the boundaries of art and make art accessible to everyone, and he wants his work to interact closely with the audience. "I became intrigued and fascinated by the graffiti I saw on the streets and on the metro. Graffiti is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I want people to experience art less depressingly. Art can be touched, felt, and even manipulated. Art is not so serious and condescending. ”
Topic 2
They are all my friends
All of them are my friends
While studying in New York, Keith Haring often went to the 57 Bar near the school, which was home to the latest Artists from New York in the 80s. Harlem has a large social circle, and in addition to the already well-known artists, there are many artists and performers who also belong to the underground art circle, such as Madonna, Andy Warhol, Kenny Schaffer and Jean-Michel Basquiat. With the increase of popularity, Haring's circle of cooperation has also expanded rapidly, and fashion designers and musicians such as Vivienne Westwood, Makin McAllen, grace Jones and other fashion designers have become Haring's close friends.
Theme 3
My language is symbols
Symbols are my language
Keith Haring excels at translating symbols into visual language. The recurring symbols in the work are harlem's way of communicating with the public. After years of running-in, people have a deep understanding and cognition of Harlem's symbols. His most famous symbol is the "glowing baby". Haring once described the little baby as "the purest and most positive experience in human nature." Haring weaves the baby's crawling posture with glowing lines, and this ignorant posture makes the artwork more innocent.
Theme 4
Creation never ends
Behind the boom in art
Keith Haring was one of the first artists to break down the barriers of art commerce. During his lifetime, he collaborated with the German car brand BMW, the Swedish vodka brand Absolute Vodka, the American Lucky Strike, the Swiss watch brand (Swatch), the sports brand Adidas and so on. After Haring's death, the foundation continued to work with Uniqlo, COACH and other well-known commercial brands.
Theme 5
In the name of art
In the name of art
Keith Haring's artwork is always colorful and vibrant, but Harlem also speaks up for tough and challenging social themes. This is not limited to the United States, and Haring dares to cry out for inequality around the world. Between 1982 and 1989, he created more than 50 public works. Many of them were created for charity centers, hospitals and orphanages. In his work, Haring boldly and firmly stated his position and attitude, doing his best to protect those in need, which is an important reason why he is respected and remembered.
Theme 6
Everyone can
To everyone, for everyone
In 1986, Harlem opened his own art store, Pop Shop, in downtown Manhattan. He personally designed the interior of the store, decorating many black and white style graffiti in every corner of the retail space. These items are designed to be sold at low prices while conforming to popular trends. T-shirts, toys, posters, buttons and refrigerator stickers with his image on them were a huge hit.
Although some have criticized Haring for commercializing his work, Haring sees it as an irresistible trend in the development of art. He said, "I can make more money just by painting something and raising the price." But my shop is just an extension of what I'm doing in the subway station, and I'm going to break down the barrier between high art and low art.
The tour ends with the most exciting moments! That must be people
