According to Kiev sources, the Ukrainian president ordered the transfer of the 128th and 10th brigades of the armed forces from their permanent bases in the west of the country to the east of Kiev to curb the explosive offensive of the Russian armed forces.
The Ukrainian army faced the need to organize the defense of the country's borders in peacetime. Since the outbreak of the conflict, the offensive of russian and Republican Forces in multiple directions has immediately tied up most of Ukraine's military strength.
At present, some of the Ukrainian armed formations stationed in the front-line area have not yet participated in the battle, but they have not been able to withdraw from the positions, because of the Russian army's interspersed encirclement of strategic large cities, air raids on field maneuvers, and the tactic of cutting off supplies, part of the Ukrainian army is almost in a situation of no-fight defeat. In fact, the only strategic reserve of the Ukrainian armed forces is the 128th and 10th Independent Mountain Assault Brigades in the southwest of the country. The 128th Brigade was stationed in the Transcarpathian region, which bordered Hungary and Slovakia, while the 10th Brigade was deployed in the Chernivtsi region, which bordered Romania and Moldova.
The 128th Brigade was the Soviet 128th Guards Red Banner Turkestan Motor Infantry Division during the Soviet era, with outstanding achievements in World War II, and then actively participated in the war between Kiev and eastern Ukraine. 2014 - in the Luhansk region, in the Lysichansk, Severodonetsk and Rubizhne regions; in 2015 - fighting near Debaltseve and Near Sanzharovka, the brigade is the main force of the Ukrainian army. At the same time, the 10th Infantry Brigade also participated in the fighting in Kiev's Donbass, but it was not frequent and slightly less effective than the 128th Brigade. Today, the two brigades are mainly from the western part of Ukraine and contain a large number of fanatical nationalists.
The 128th Mountain Assault Brigade consisted of the 10th Independent Anti-Aircraft Missile and Artillery Battalion, the 15th Independent Mountain Infantry Battalion --- completely annihilated by the Eastern Militia "Spartan" battalion while trying to break through in the Eastern Volnovaka area on 6 March, the Wolf's Head Battalion flag captured, the 16th Independent Tank Battalion, the 21st Independent Mobile Rifle Battalion, the 36th Independent Mobile Rifle Battalion, and the 17th Independent Brigade Artillery Brigade - 534th Independent Engineer Battalion.
The 10th Independent Mountain Assault Brigade comprises the 8th Independent Mountain Infantry Battalion, the 108th Independent Mountain Assault Battalion, the 109th Independent Mountain Assault Battalion, tank battalions, anti-aircraft missile and anti-aircraft artillery battalions, brigade artillery battalions, and reconnaissance companies.
After the start of the Russian special operation, information on these two formations has appeared on the battlefield many times, and it can be inferred that in view of the urgent form of the battlefield, the Ukrainian armed forces have put the last strategic reserves into the battle.
