2. Bălţi (Romanian: Bălţi; Russian: Бельцы) is the third largest city in Moldova by population (after the capital, Chisinau, and Tiraspol). It has an area of 78 square kilometers and a population of 127,600. It ranks second only to Chisinau in terms of economic importance and area.
