Why do people attach so much importance to academic qualifications when they are blind dates? Perhaps, psychological research can give you a different way of thinking.

Not long ago, a study published in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior showed that a partner's level of education was positively correlated with an individual's level of health.

Professor Halpern-Manners and his team from Indiana University surveyed all graduates of Wisconsin State High School from 1957 to 2011. To further narrow the influence of other factors, the researchers investigated the educational attainment of the participants, their partners, their siblings, and the participants' siblings, as well as their self-reported fitness levels (1 = very poor / 5 = very good).

The results found:

A partner's level of education can significantly predict the health level of the other half. The higher the partner's education level, the better the health level of the other half.

More interesting is:

Gender affects the relationship between a partner's level of education and an individual's level of health. A woman's health level is more significantly influenced by her partner's educational attainment.

The researchers explain that the conclusions of the experiment may be influenced by age. Because women's education level in the 70s and 80s was relatively limited, the higher education level of men could provide women with more intellectual, emotional, social, and economic resources.
