Beijing, March 9 (Xinhua) -- On March 9, in the men's short distance sitting group competition of Paralympic cross-country skiing at the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games, Chinese players Zheng Peng and Mao Zhongwu successfully won the championship and runner-up. In the women's short-distance sitting group competition of Paralympic cross-country skiing that followed, Yang Hongqiong won the championship. The Chinese team won two gold medals in 20 minutes, and Zheng Peng and Yang Hongqiong also became the "double champions" of the Winter Paralympic Games.

Zheng Peng's gold medal was the 9th gold medal won by the Chinese team in this competition and the second gold medal he won at the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games. At this point, Zheng Peng became the first "double champion" of the Chinese delegation in the Winter Paralympic Games, creating a new history!

Zheng Peng, 29, was disabled in 2011 when he was an apprentice in an auto repair plant when he was hit by a lift and his legs were injured. Life has suddenly changed, but he has not been defeated, and Zheng Peng has realized his value on the road of sports.

In 2013, Zheng Peng applied for a sports school for the disabled in Beijing under the recommendation of the Disabled Persons' Federation in his hometown and was admitted, and has been exposed to skiing since then. When he first started training, he encountered many difficulties, but Zheng Peng gritted his teeth and persevered.

In 2018, he represented China at the Pyeongchang Winter Paralympic Games, finishing fourth in the men's sitting position of 15 km in cross-country skiing, passing by the podium.

In the long-term preparation process for the Winter Paralympic Games, Zheng Peng also had a difficult period. He said that there was a period of time in the middle when he felt that his training level had not improved, and he may have been a little anxious at that time. "I'm glad I stuck with it, so I said that the adjustment of my mentality felt very helpful."

Now, he has won his second gold medal in this Winter Paralympic Games, and his years of hard work have been rewarded.

Next, Zheng Peng will also participate in the Beijing Winter Paralympic Paralympic Cross-Country Skiing Men's Mid-Range Sitting Group Competition, looking forward to him bringing more surprises.

After Zheng Peng made a historic breakthrough, the cross-country skiing arena passed on the news of success. Yang Hongqiong won the gold medal for the Chinese team at the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games and her second gold medal in this competition.

Yang Hongqiong is a veteran who previously won the gold medal in the women's Paralympic cross-country skiing long distance sitting group at the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games. Many people don't know that she has a nickname called "Yang Meijiao".

Originally a wheelchair basketball player, she encountered many difficulties in cross-border ski training.

Sitting cross-country skiing training and competition need to rely on both hands to maintain body balance, because of the discomfort, Yang Hongqiong became one of the most wrestled players in the team. So the coach gave her a nickname - Yang Meijiao, the harmonic sound "Yang Every Wrestling" - Yang Hongqiong wrestled once a day.

At last year's National Paralympic Games, Yang Hongqiong played abnormally, and her results were not outstanding. This made her doubt herself for a while, but the "unconvinced" in her heart pulled her back to the field and finally bloomed perfectly at the Winter Paralympic Games.

Next, Yang Hongqiong will also participate in the Beijing Winter Paralympic Cross-Country Skiing Women's Mid-Range Sitting Group Competition, and she will also launch a challenge to her third gold medal.

So far, the Chinese delegation has successfully exceeded the 10 mark in the number of gold medals in the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games. From the first gold medal in history won by the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics to the current leading medal table, the brilliant performance of China's disabled athletes is the epitome of the vigorous development of China's sports for the disabled.

The Beijing Winter Paralympic Games officially entered the second half of the schedule, and we look forward to the Chinese delegation to bring more excellent performance! (End)
