Song Yuanfu, an 88-year-old veteran: Deaf in both ears under artillery fire, facing enemy trucks on the battlefield...

He joined the army at the age of 16 and experienced the War of Liberation and the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. Once, during a communication mission, he was deafened by a bomb dropped by a US military plane, and almost lost his life, but he completed the task well... On the eve of August 1st, in the Shuguang Community of the Sino-Czech Industrial Park, 88-year-old veteran Song Yuanfu told us about the glory years, full of patriotic feelings overflowing with words and moving.

Song Yuanfu, born in 1931, became a soldier in 1946, and followed the troops to participate in the Battle of Huaihai and the Battle of Crossing the River. After the Battle of Huaihai, he was honored to join the Party due to his excellent achievements in communications work. Subsequently, he followed the troops to the northeast and was responsible for the defense and logistics support work in the northeast during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. In 1955, Song Yuanfu actively responded to the call of his superiors, followed the demobilized troops, and participated in the preparation and construction of the Sino-Czech Friendship Farm. In 1991, the old man retired from the Sino-Czech Friendship Farm Highway Management Station.

At that time, the troops were stationed in the northeast, and I was assigned by my superiors to perform communications tasks. Along the way, U.S. planes kept dropping bombs on the border line because they were relatively close to the site of the explosion, and I was stunned and buried in the rubble by the exploded earth. I thought I was 'glorious', but God made a joke with me, and after the 'bang', I just couldn't hear anything. As soon as I touched the documents in my pocket, I was afraid of delaying the time, trotted all the way, and finally completed the communication task assigned by my superiors at the first time. Song Yuanfu, who was old enough, still clearly remembers a dangerous adventure when he was an air force ground correspondent in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea.

"From the day I joined the revolution, I have long since put my personal life and death on the line. Unfortunately, until the end of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, there was no chance to fight with the enemy on the front line! "The old man said as he drew with his hand." All reactionaries are paper tigers. Although I couldn't hear it, I knew the road and was bent on listening to the party's command and conscientiously accomplishing the task. Victory is always ours! Speaking of this, the old man's calm face showed a satisfied smile.

Song Yuanfu said that the most memorable thing in this life was the death-defying battle between the troops and the enemy. During his time as a signal soldier, he had to travel from the army station to Beijing once a week, and in order to fight the enemy, he took a train, crossed a ship, drove a motorcycle, and rode a horse. "I remember the most thrilling one, when I had a head-on encounter with an enemy truck, which ran directly over the motorcycle I was driving, and people were thrown out for a long distance, and they were stunned." Recalling the thrilling scene of that year, the old man's face was very calm. "I joined the army to be a glorious soldier of the People's Liberation Army, under the leadership of the Communist Party, to overthrow the three mountains that weighed on the people's heads, and realize the value of my own life." Talking about the original intention of being a soldier, the old man's eyes were shining and his face was glowing.

Towels treasured by the old man

While recounting the heroic deeds of that year, the old man showed us the "treasure" when he joined the army. Unfortunately, only a precious Huaihai Battle medal is preserved at home, and the rest of the military merit medals and commemorative medals have been lost due to several moves. The yellowed red certificates in the drawer tell us the shining life trajectory of a veteran from youth to old age.

After liberation, in response to the party's call, Song Yuanfu consciously gave up the preferential treatment of the troops and came to the Sino-Czech Friendship Farm to participate in production and construction, and for decades as a day, strengthened his revolutionary convictions, carried forward the revolutionary traditions, took root in the grass-roots units, and became a "service soldier" of the masses of the people all his life.

To this day, the elderly take the initiative to go to the Dawning Workstation of Chaoyang Street Community every year to pay the party fee, and each time they have to turn in more, hoping to make more contributions to the party organization. "Compared with other comrades who died, I was lucky to survive, and I was not a big deal. Honor is also given by the party. Although my ears cannot hear, my heart must always be with the Party, not to add trouble to the organization, and to obey the Party's command. After saying this, the old man stood up and gave a military salute slowly.
