On March 7, the latest report from DIGITIMES pointed out that in the past few years, the Model 3 has been the world's best-selling electric vehicle. However, this year, the title may be replaced by Model Y, and several major Tesla factories have begun to put into production Model Y, and sales may surpass Model 3.

According to CleanTechnica research, total global sales of electric vehicles reached 6.5 million in 2021, up 108% year-on-year. Tesla ranked first among all car companies with a score of 936,000 units, and BYD ranked second with 594,000 units. Among them, Tesla's global market share reached 14.4%, and it is the only automaker with a share of more than 10%.
In the global market, Tesla vehicle sales are still much higher than BYD, Tesla's sales target for 2022 is set at 1.5 million vehicles, and Musk also indicated that Tesla will not launch new models this year. Therefore, if Tesla wants to achieve its sales target, it still has to rely on model 3 and model Y.
Although the model 3 is slightly lower in positioning and price, it has a longer time to market and is actually less competitive. Moreover, due to the shortage of chips, lithium batteries and raw materials, the price of the car has risen many times, and the price of the standard endurance version has risen to 265,000 yuan, to be honest, the cost performance is really not high.
Model Y is also very popular, especially the standard endurance version is only priced at 267,000 yuan, which is much stronger than the Model 3 in all aspects, and once it is listed, it is in short supply. Now it has also increased its price to more than 300,000, but the delivery period still has to wait more than 3 months.
It is understood that Tesla's Berlin Gigafactory has received final approval and will soon mass-produce the Model Y. Meanwhile, the Texas Gigafactory has been producing the Model Y since the end of last year, while the Shanghai Gigafactory is expanding to boost production of two best-selling models. At that time, there will be four factories producing the Model Y at the same time, which is certainly much higher than the Model 3.
However, Tesla does not seem to publish the delivery data of specific models, but will combine the sales volume of the Model 3/Y, so it is impossible to understand the specific delivery volume of the Model Y. But it can be found that Tesla is clearly putting more energy into this model, and this year's sales exceeding the Model 3 should not be a big problem. Now that Tesla has more and more competitors, can the special without new models on the market continue to maintain its advantage?
