Xiahou Zhanzi Xiaoruo (孝若), a native of the State of Chen (谯国, in present-day Bozhou, Anhui), was the great-grandson of the Wei general Xiahou Yuan. Successively serving as crown princes Sheren, Shangshulang, Zhongshulang, and Nanyang Xiang, Emperor Wu of Jin died on the way to becoming a servant of the crown prince, so he became the scattered attendant of Emperor Hui of Jin. Liu Zhu explains the origin of the Zhou Poems:
The Zhanji contains his narrative: "Zhou poets, nansaka, Baihua, Huahuang, Yougeng, Chongqiu, and Youyi, have their righteousness and die. Zhan continued his death, so Yun "Zhou Shi" also. ”
That is, there are six articles in the "Book of Poetry, Xiao ya", which are called "Sheng Poems", and only the titles and no content have been handed down. Some people say that they were originally music with sound and no words, or that they were originally content, but they were lost, so now only their general meaning is known. Xiahou Zhan himself supplemented these poems, called "Zhou Poems".

Shi (Feng Shi) will be afraid of not being able to let his ancestors do the same. "Analysing Fuhe", "Minghe Bandit and" all refer to "the son cannot inherit the father's business", that is, he cannot inherit the legacy of his predecessors. ）
My heart was very painful and sad, and I was worried that I would not be able to contribute to the development of the family. The ancestral training has been determined, and the clan fortune is smooth. I must be three provinces a day, and I dare not slacken off and waste.
However, we cannot say that Xiahou Zhan's name is vain, after all, he also wrote a "Portrait of Oriental Shuo praise and preface", which is included in the "Anthology", and was later copied by Wang Xizhi and Yan Zhenqing.

Needless to say, Dongfang Shuo was a famous figure during the time of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, and a native of Pingyuan County. During the Wei and Jin dynasties, Xiahou Zhan's father Xiahou Zhuang served as the Taishou of Leling and ruled the place of disgust. When Xiahou Zhan went to visit his father, he saw the ancestral hall and portrait of Dongfang Shuo, and he was touched by it and wrote this article.
Dongfang Shuo is a character I like. You may say that he works for himself, but he is also more beautiful than others, and he does not misunderstand the country, or that he is only a means for him to seek a country.
Xiahou Zhan's understanding of Dongfang Shuo expressed in this passage in the "Preface to Praise" is deeply satisfactory to me, and it seems that I can imagine the way he stood in front of the portrait of Dongfang Shuo more than 1,700 years ago:
