Chuxiong Prefecture is located in the hinterland of central Yunnan, with a long history and splendid culture. As the cultural window of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Chuxiong Prefecture Museum is not only a preserver and recorder of history, but also the soul of a city. Today's Chuxiong Prefecture Museum is one of the largest, most distinctive and rich comprehensive museums in China's 30 ethnic minority autonomous prefectures, and these achievements are inseparable from Zhong Shimin.
In the 1980s, Chuxiong had no museum, and could only watch as the rare treasures unearthed from our state were requisitioned to other museums for exhibition, and Zhong Shimin was very unhappy. In October 1992, Zhong Shimin was transferred from the Yi Cultural Research Institute to the Chuxiong Prefecture Museum, and he finally looked forward to the good news of preparing for the construction of the Chuxiong Prefecture Museum. In the main design proposal of the building, he put forward the creative concept of integrating the elements of Yi culture into the architectural design, which impressed the designer and was recognized by experts. The Chuxiong Prefecture Museum, located next to the Nanshan Wild Goose Pagoda in Lucheng, became a landmark building in Chuxiong at that time.
The rare treasures displayed in the exhibition hall of the Chuxiong Prefecture Museum have left traces of history. Cultural relics can't speak, but they need someone to tell a story, which is a new challenge for Zhong Shimin.

Under the leadership of Zhong Shimin, Chuxiong Prefecture Museum has become a comprehensive museum that takes the protection and inheritance of excellent history and culture as its own responsibility, integrates cultural relics collection, collection, research, display, education and service, exhibits more than 10,000 cultural relics in the museum, and the collection of paleontological fossils, bronze cultural relics and Yi costumes has become the biggest highlight of chuxiong Prefecture Museum. In 2011, Chuxiong Prefecture Museum took the lead in becoming the first 4A-level tourist scenic spot museum in the province.
Due to the outstanding achievements of the two censuses, the State Museum was commended by the Leading Group of the State Council for the Census of Cultural Relics and the State Administration of Cultural Relics as the "Outstanding Contribution Collective Award for the Third National Immovable Cultural Relics Census" and the "Advanced Collective for the First National Movable Cultural Relics Census", which is the only prefecture-level museum in our province that has been commended by the state twice by the state. In the field of academic research, Zhong Shimin has achieved fruitful results, edited and published more than 20 works such as "Interpretation of Chinese Chuxiong Yi Costumes" and "Collection of Chinese Hundred Years of Yi Costume Classics", published more than 110 academic papers, and ranked among the international academic research levels.
