What made Bottega Veneta a Bottega Veneta? Creative Director Matthiu Blazy's first collection returns to exploring the roots of the brand: building on the past, understanding the present, and leading the future.
The story of costumes and characters is composed by the creator and the wearer, and is a communication that involves movement and emotion. Throwing away the flashiness, we end up with a more intimate enjoyment, the "quiet power" that belongs to the sense rather than the vision. Here, luxury and practicality go hand in hand; the right materials and techniques may exist in every corner of life, but this must be made possible by the traditional craftsmanship of Italian craftsmen. At the same time, a group of actors like movie characters present everything in a relaxed and casual way, bringing a sense of subversion to tradition, movement, senses and life: where did they come from and where are they going?
From Italian specialty girls wearing ultra-realistic daywear jeans (which, surprisingly, are actually soft printed cowbucks), shoulder-shoulder Kalimero handbags (all handmade, uniquely hand-woven leather upholstery all-in-one, seamlessly tracing); to girls wearing their partner's business shirt (also in the same cowbag fabric, traditional shirt style) and Intreccio boots (also made from a whole piece of fabric); to taking off their suits and revealing a more unrestrained, Men and women with more fluid silhouettes (inspired by Umberto Boccioni's 1913 sculpture Unique Forms of Continuity in Space, amplified and cut through patterns to bring the old shadow of Italian futurism into the present). For both men and women, look for new and gorgeous fabrics that are ultra-light, plump, dynamic and textured; from novel full-haired flannel and herringbone with colourful spots, to three-layer prints throughout, to new interpretations of Reves lace (still made from 18th-century weaving and adorned on 21st-century synthetic fibres on one-sided knit). Knitting has a unique meaning that is reminiscent of the clothing that was cherished as a child.
Some people will be carrying leather Pillow pillow bags (if you're at the fashion show, you'll have one in your seat), and the more well-known Intreccio bag may also appear. Here, the question is not "Why?" It's "Why not?" "Everyone's gesture is important; ultimately it will be up to the wearer to decide how to act or live in these costumes, and how to tell their story through these costumes." The Creator respects and encourages such practices. Perhaps this is what Bottega Veneta really stands for: an emotional investment in the things of life, in every way.
