According to runTO's "Chinese Smart Speakers Retail Market Monthly Tracker" report, China's smart speaker market sales in January 2022 were 3.05 million units, down 19.4% year-on-year and 3.5% month-on-month; market sales were 850 million yuan, down 14.2% year-on-year and slightly up 0.2% month-on-month. Despite the blessing of the New Year Festival in January, the smart speaker market is still sluggish, and sales have dropped sharply year-on-year.

Top4 brand concentration increased

According to DATA FROM RUNTO, in January 2022, the market share of Xiaomi, Baidu, Tmall Genie and Huawei TOP4 reached 96.5%, up 2.2 percentage points from the same period last year and 0.9 percentage points from the previous month.

Xiaomi (including red rice) ranked first, with a share of 33.2% this month, of which the sales volume of Jingdong platform and offline stores performed better. In January, Xiaomi had 16 models on sale, and the 100-yuan product Xiaoai Speaker Play Series contributed the most.

Baidu ranked second, with a share of 31.9% this month, and it accelerated the development of the sinking market through social e-commerce, operators and chain stores, bringing a lot of increments. In January, Baidu sold 23 models, and the main sales model was a screen speaker.

With the help of the Spring Festival Gala traffic pool, JD.com's sales surpassed Tmall, and the share of Tmall elves that mainly attacked the Tmall platform declined, falling to third place. In January, Tmall Genie had 20 models on sale, with the highest internal contribution rate of IN Sugar, followed by the Sugar Cube series.

Huawei ranked fourth with a share of 3.5%. In January, Huawei had 10 models on sale, and the main models were still mid-to-high-end products, with a price segment share of more than 600 yuan in its internal share of nearly 40%.

Screen speaker share picked up

According to runto online data, the sales volume of screen speakers reached 24.2% in January, down 1.8 percentage points from the same period last year and 4.2 percentage points from the previous month.

By brand, Baidu ranked first in the screen speaker market, accounting for more than 60% of sales, a sharp increase of 10.7 percentage points over the previous month; Xiaomi's four screen speaker product sales increased compared with the previous month, driving its share growth; Tmall Genie products sluggish performance, the share fell by 12.4 percentage points from the previous month.

From the product point of view, the share of 8-inch and above products in the screen speaker market reached 32.1%, an increase of 2.4 percentage points over the same period last year, down 1.0 percentage points from the previous month; the share of products with 10 inches and above reached 15.7%, an increase of 3.4 percentage points over the same period last year, an increase of 3.5 percentage points over the previous month.
