Teachers at Suzhou Middle School led students to write poems for the Winter Olympics: they did not want children's talents to be used only for exams

"Spring visiting Nongyin, snow drifting under the sun, the five rings of snow warm and fragrant."

The birds' nests are boiling and gathering exotic places.

Tens of thousands of screen illusions, watching the Winter Olympics, the country's prosperity and longchang.

On the ice rink, the sons and daughters of China compete for glory with the world. ”

On the day of the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics, more than a thousand kilometers away in Suzhou, Zhou Jiahui, a sophomore in high school, used a poem to record the grand opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics in his mind.

Not only Zhou Jiahui, but also 50 or 60 members of the Suzhou Middle School Poetry Training Institute expressed their warm praise for the Beijing Winter Olympics with poems under the guidance of teacher Min Fanjun.

"The 24th Beijing Winter Olympics came to a successful end, but the Olympic flame that burned in the hearts of the Chinese people has not been extinguished, and the passion it has aroused for young people to chase their dreams is even more surging and endless." Min Fanjun feels that this creation reflects the spiritual outlook of Chinese youth in the new era.

The following is the conversation between the Beijing News reporter and Min Fanjun:

"A stage for students who love poetry"

Beijing News: How did you think of using poetry as a form to express your expectations for the Winter Olympics?

Min Fanjun: We have a poetry club in Suzhou Middle School, and I am the guidance teacher of the club. Usually, when there are major events, such as the fight against the epidemic in Suzhou, I will assign "homework" to everyone. Students should not only hide in the study hall, but also pay attention to society.

This time with the Winter Olympics as the theme, I stipulate that the first use of the word "Manting Fang" brand, mainly considering that the word "Manting Fang" itself is relatively good, is a more positive and high-spirited tone, the second uses the "Seven Yang" rhyme, the creation time of one week.

In the end, a total of 14 songs were handed in, and I only made adjustments to the improper use of individual words, slightly polished, and the changes were not large, basically their originals.

Beijing News: How was this poetry society formed? Why the idea?

Min Fanjun: The society was formed in 2010. At that time, zhang Xin, the principal of Suzhou Middle School, was a poetry lover, and one day he came to me and asked if he could start a classical poetry creation club, and I happened to have this idea, so we founded the "South Garden Club" together, and later founded the Poetry Club among the students, which is the predecessor of the Suzhou Middle School Poetry Workshop.

I have been in Suzhou Middle School for more than 20 years and have been teaching high school Chinese. The language test only tests the recitation and appreciation of classical poetry, not the creation, but there are always students who like poetry, and they do not have a stage for creation. So our community, the main thing is to give them a space and platform for creation and communication.

I myself prefer poetry, and I must learn poetry from a young age, and when I am older, I am slow to accept new things. I want to cultivate a group of young poetry writers, and I don't want their talents to be used only for exams.

Beijing News: In Jiangsu, is poetry education a common situation?

Min Fanjun: I think Jiangsu has done a relatively good job of this. We in Jiangsu have proposed the "six advances": into the campus, into the organs, into the enterprises, into the community, into the countryside, into the scenic spots. This work has been adhered to and has played a great role in promoting the popularization of poetry education and creation in the province. Many schools responded to this call by inviting teachers from the Poetry Society to go to the school for counseling and help schools carry out poetry education. Some primary schools also compile poems into recess exercises, and can recite nearly 300 poems after six years.

"Integrating aesthetic education into language teaching"

Beijing News: What activities do the associations usually have?

Min Fanjun: Every week, I will take an hour to do offline training for students to explain the basic knowledge of classical poetry and grammar, such as the basic requirements of classical poetry and songwriting, such as flatness, rhyme, and battle, and the imagery characteristics of classical poetry, that is, aesthetic pursuit.

We have dedicated training rooms, right inside the library. There is also a road mountain in the school, which has a history of nearly 1,000 years, and there is a road mountain pavilion on the mountain, which can also be used as a classroom.

Our school also has three ponds: Pan Pond, Spring Rain Pond and Bixia Pond. The school bridges flowing water, ancient wood sensen, the most of which is the camphor tree, evergreen all year round. There are also cherry blossom trees, willow trees, locust trees, lilac trees, magnolias, red magnolias, etc., which are particularly lively in spring. Oleander in summer and fiery red maple trees in autumn, very beautiful. All year round, the garden is beautiful, which can provide students with creative materials and inspire creativity.

Usually, everyone occasionally feels it, writes it and sends it to the group, and communicates with each other. We sometimes organize outings to collect wind, and we have been to Meihuawu in Hangzhou, which happens to be the spring tea picking season. Swimming in the West Lake is just a moon night, as the saying goes: the west lake is better, the clear lake is not as good as the rain lake, the rain lake is not as good as the moon lake, and the moon lake is not as good as the snow lake. Walking on the Su Causeway with the moon hanging high is really a rare poetry. We have also been to the Grand Canyon of Tianmu Mountain, Yangzhou Slender West Lake and so on.

We also run a publication called "South Park Window", which is published once a semester, and it has been insisting on it for 12 years now. About 200 poems are published in each issue, mainly classical poems created by our students. I also have some selection criteria, such as reflecting the content must be positive, reflecting the real emotional experience in the student's life, not making it up, meeting the requirements of the law, and so on.

Beijing News: What was the process of compiling textbooks such as "Suzhou Middle School Traditional Culture Popularization Reader"? What kind of educational philosophy does it reflect?

Min Fanjun: At the beginning of the establishment of the society, I wrote lecture notes and courseware myself. By 2015, I simply integrated these contents and began to compile the textbook "Suzhou Middle School Traditional Culture Popularization Reader", which was later used one by one. As far as I know, there were no similar reading books in Jiangsu Province at that time, so our traditional poetry education started relatively early.

At that time, I was sorting out the materials while taking classes, spending more than a year revising, and printing them in 2017, with a full text of 300,000 words. I have two lessons a day, and after I have done my homework, I sit in front of the computer, sort out the basic content of traditional culture, and systematize the bits and pieces, aiming at popularization and common sense.

In this reading book, I have selected many articles related to the textbook to expand. For example, the textbook says that Su Shi's "Nian Nu Jiao Chibi Huaigu" was created when Su Shi was relegated to Huangzhou. Being degraded in Huangzhou is a creative peak of Su Shi, so that students can expand and read works of the same period, so that Su Shi's life situation and feelings during that period in Huangzhou can be more fully displayed. People are inseparable from the times, lectures should talk about the background of the times, combined with the times to understand and compare, students can grasp more comprehensively.

In addition, in general education, such content as Ping Shu Yun foot will not be taught, because the exam is not tested. But I will occasionally expand a little in the classroom, such as "Qinyuan Spring Snow", I will talk about which position is flat and which position is flat, which position is flat, and students are sometimes quite interested.

In terms of language teaching, this is called the "big language concept", which is not limited to textbooks, not limited to classrooms, and not limited to examinations. There is a saying that "as big as the scope of life is, so is the scope of language". I have always done this, the language class should be "meaningful" and "interesting", combining aesthetic value with cognitive value and educational value. Being able to choose something meaningful and interesting that I like is a great happiness in life, so I will do my best to do it well.
