Paralympic alpine skiing originated from the way some lower limb disabled soldiers in Europe used crutches to ski in rehabilitation exercises after World War II, and was set up in the first Winter Paralympic Games in 1976, which is one of the traditional sports events of the Winter Paralympic Games.
Paralympic alpine skiing is known as the "sport of the brave", athletes slide down from the top of the mountain at a speed of about 100 km / h when going downhill, and athletes need to master both speed and agility to complete the race.
Athletes in competitions
The equipment for the Paralympic Alpine Skiing Competition varies by category. Single-limb athletes use single skis plus ski aid, or wear prosthetics to use double skis; athletes with amputation or paraplegia with spinal injury use a seated ski and ski aid, and a single snowboard is generally installed under the seated ski; the competition of visually impaired athletes is completed by the leader using a walkie-talkie or speaker guidance, and the totally blind athlete needs to wear all-black lens ski goggles.
Paralympic alpine skiing has different venues and generally ranges from 140 to 800 meters. The three groups use the same glide route, and the general gliding order is the visually impaired group, the standing group, and the sitting group. After the competition, the actual results of the athletes in each group are multiplied by the corresponding grading coefficient to determine the final result. Among them, the downhill and super giant slalom belong to the speed series project, and the ranking is determined by the performance of one glide; the large slalom and slalom belong to the technical series project, and the ranking is calculated according to the total of the two sliding results; and the super all-round project is calculated by the sum of the results of the first round of super big slalom and the second round of rotation.
The alpine skiing project of the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games has 5 events: slalom, big slalom, super slalom, super all-around and downhill, and each event is divided into three categories: standing posture, sitting posture and visual impairment, and a total of 30 gold medals will be produced.
