When asked about how it feels to be on the same team with golf greats like Curry and Iguodala, Thompson volunteered to mention Paul. "At least we have Chris Paul now... When he joined our team, I said to him 'I can finally beat a guy on the golf course' because Andre (Iguodala) and Stephen (Curry) are on another level. ”

This sentence opens up a discussion about the Paul deal. Slater asked the Splash Brothers about last week's blockbuster deal for Paul and new general manager Dunleavey. He approved such a deal in his first week in office. Here's a conversation between Slater and the Splash Brothers –

Slater: Clay, you opened the subject, what do you think about Paul's trade? You've mentioned that he's your new teammate.

Thompson: It's an honor to play any time with one of the best players of your time. It's kind of weird because we've had a lot of fights with Chris (Paul) in the past and he's led a lot of teams that almost beat us in 2014, or did beat us. I think he can bring the calm and leadership we need. I know that he and Stephen are both from North Carolina and have known each other for a long time. For me, playing with a passer and playmaker like this, it's going to be very smooth and I'm excited.

Slater: Stephen, how about you?

Curry: It feels the same, this business is crazy. We all know this, and if you had asked us six months ago if this was going to happen, based on where we we're at, the answer would probably be no. Then in the summer, you'll try to figure out how to get better and put yourself in the position of chasing another championship. Every team Paul has played for is going to get better, that's where he's been consistent, he's going to bring a lot to the team, everybody talks about age and it's our responsibility to put everything together and then figure out what to do. ”

You hate losing Poole, and I know it's not announced yet, so I don't want to talk too much about it before that, but that [losing Poole] is the hardest part of the deal, watching a young person play out his or her abilities (and then get traded). It will be a great opportunity for him. It's just that you get to know him, you build a friendship, you make a connection. It's going to be sad to see him go, but you know, we want to win next year and Paul can help us do that.

Slater: For the first time in a long time, you're working with a new general manager, and I'm curious about your initial feelings about working with Dunlewick Jr.

Thompson: Well, I love Mike Dunleavey. I watched Mike play in Portland High School as a kid, then become a member of McDonald's All-American Star, then go to Duke University and enter the NBA. For Oregon, this is a big deal. We don't have a lot of people who can do that. It's crazy to work with him now, the world is so small, especially in basketball. Now, strictly speaking, he's my boss, and before that he was like a big brother, let us go to his house and throw us into the pool and the garbage. It's crazy to work with him now, and I know Mike can do great things. Stephen, you're old, I'm not sure you've played with him? Brother, is that your time?

Curry: My rookie season was terrible, but when he's here, it's not that bad.

Slater: At least you fought him.

Curry: I did play against him, I think, two years before he retired, but it was interesting. Transformation and change are always difficult, especially in this alliance at stake. But I've enjoyed the conversations I've had with him so far and his steadfastness and belief in these ideas. It's time to execute it, and over time that will show up in how we achieve our goals, chase championships, and determine the future.
