Recently, according to the environmental information disclosure platform of Shanghai enterprises and institutions, Tesla announced the environmental impact assessment report of the first phase of its Shanghai Gigafactory Project (Phase I) - Parts Production Process Improvement Project (Capacity Adjustment) on February 22.
In the report, Tesla said that in order to meet the export needs of enterprises, Shanghai plans to build a new project in the existing plant of the first phase of the plot, and increase the production capacity of parts by increasing the production workshop, increasing the number of workers, and improving the operating rate of production equipment.
It is reported that this will help Tesla increase the production capacity of the Shanghai factory to 1 million vehicles per year. Previously, the Shanghai plant had a planned annual production capacity of about 450,000 units. It is understood that at present, the factory has delivered more than 480,000 vehicles (including exports), accounting for 51.7% of Tesla's cumulative deliveries in 2021.
Tesla plans to add new production processes such as power batteries, electric drive assemblies, and integrated molding of vehicle bodies in the Shanghai factory, manufacture key components of electric vehicles, and produce 260,000 sets of power battery packs (battery management system integration), motor systems, controllers, etc.
